Incarnate Word, which has boasted one of the highest-powered offenses in FCS over the past several years, has turned to Ty Darlington to coach its tight ends. The program announced the news on Thursday evening.

Darlington heads to San Antonio after a stint on Billy Napier’s staff at Florida as a quality control coach, working with the Gators’ tight ends. Prior to his time at Florida, Darlington served for 5 seasons at Oklahoma on the staff of Lincoln Riley, initially as an offensive analyst and then as an offensive graduate assistant. An Oklahoma graduate, he was a starting center on the Sooners’ offensive line, eventually being named an All-Big 12 performer.

Incarnate Word is coming off a 12-2 season that saw it advance to the semifinals of the FCS playoffs for the 1st time and finish the year ranked No. 3 in FCS. It led the country in scoring offense (51.5 points per game), while quarterback Lindsey Scott was the nation’s 2nd-leading passer while posting an FCS-record 60 passing touchdowns en route to being named the Walter Payton Award winner as the most outstanding offensive player. His 71 touchdowns accounted for (60 passing, 11 rushing) is also an FCS record.

Head coach G.J. Kinne left after 1 season to take the same position at Texas State. He was replaced by 29-year-old assistant coach Clint Killough, the youngest head coach in Division 1.

New offensive coordinator Conner McQueen also has SEC ties, having formerly played at Texas A&M.
