Danny White signed to new contract, 'believed to be' highest-paid AD in SEC, per report
Tennessee athletic director Danny White has Tennessee athletics performing at a very high level, and now he’s being compensated as such.
White’s received a new contract Wednesday that is believed to make him the highest paid athletic director in the SEC and top 8 in the nation, according to SI’s Ross Dellenger. White will make $2.2 million annually on a 6-year contract.
Tennessee has signed AD Danny White to a new, rolling 6-yr contract paying him $2.2M a year, sources tell @SINow.
White is believed to be the highest paid SEC AD & top-8 nationally. He’s overseen a department that’s won 6 SEC titles in 2 yrs & had record fundraising in 2021-22.

White oversight has seen Tennessee football and baseball reach No. 1 in the AP poll, an SEC championship from Tennessee basketball, baseball, soccer, tennis and a final four for men’s Tennis. And that’s just the start of it.
Perhaps most importantly, White’s hire of Josh Heupel has fast-tracked the football program back to national relevance, with Tennessee winning 11 games last season after a terrible 2020 campaign.

Tennessee sportsbooks are live in the Volunteer state since November 1, 2020. Tennessee was the first SEC state to legalize sports betting.
So he’s “the highest paid athletic director in the country and top 8 in the nation”.
Think about that for a second.
Though I’m a little hesitant on the Heupel extension, not at all for this one. Well deserved.
Was thinking the same thing, maybe they meant highest paid in the COUNTY.
I agree with you on all points. I have no problems with the amount of money. I think he’s the guy going forwards. But I’m a cautious man. I would have preferred a four year contract with a fifth-year option, or something similar. His buyout’s what, $50 million now? That’s a loooot of money. And we’re not Texas A&M. Sure, we’ve got the Haslams, but they don’t wanna pay $50 million to a fired coach.
Just being cautious.
This was meant for below.
I hear you are the highest paid in your trailer park
Why hesitant on Heupel? You don’t think he’s a top 5 coach in the SEC? You don’t think he’s done more with less? The amount of money is absurd, but that’s the current market… What he’s done and the prospect of what he can do is a Hell of a lot better than what we’ve endured the past 15 years.
Heup has done a very good job for the Vols. He came to Knoxville with his ultra-speed-offense and has had more talent on his teams than he’s ever coached; thus the quick success.
AD’s give out raises and extensions like they are wooing a girlfriend with gifts.
Highest paid in the sec but 8th in the nation.
The Buyout on Heup’s extension and the years should be a concern for all Vol fans. There are no guarantees of continued success in football, ever.

“White oversight has seen Tennessee football and baseball …”
Another classic from Spelling Down South.

I should go change my screen name to White Oversight. Just to see if SDS notices.
