Florida has been among the schools heavily pursuing quarterbacks in the transfer portal after the departure of signal-caller Anthony Richardson to the 2023 NFL Draft and one of the latest names the school has been linked to is Coastal Carolina quarterback Grayson McCall.

According to a report from On3 Sports, a “source close to the situation” has said that the Gators have emerged as a serious contender to bring McCall on board. If that were to happen, he would join a quarterback room with 4-star prospect Jaden Rashada, who the Gators are looking to let sit for a while before he sees action.

McCall has been effective and has garnered national attention as a true dual-threat quarterback over 4 seasons at Coastal Carolina, completing 70.4% of his passes for 8,019 yards with 78 touchdowns and 8 interceptions while adding 1,053 yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground.

He finished out the 2022 season with a 69.1% completion rate, 2,633 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. He also had 183 rushing yards and 5 rushing touchdowns.

Regardless of which team he ends up with, that program will be getting one of the most electric players college football has seen over recent history with high NFL upside.

“I’m a quarterback but I’m also a football player,” McCall told me of his game last season. “I don’t mind the contact, sticking my nose in there and being tough. I like watching guys like Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers. Their toughness and their grit and the way they extend plays and the way they throw on the run. I don’t model my game off of anyone in particular, but I do like watching those guys.”

With names like Devin Leary also in the portal, McCall stands out as one of the biggest talents remaining up for grabs.
