Hugh Freeze rumors: Liberty coach addresses Auburn interest after lopsided loss
Speculation has intensified Saturday that Hugh Freeze will be Auburn’s next football coach.
ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel reported that Freeze could be extended a formal offer after the Iron Bowl.
Freeze is the head coach at Liberty, where he has compiled a 34-15 mark in 4 seasons.
The Flames lost a stunner to New Mexico State on Saturday, 49-14. They had been 24-point favorites, and it was their 3rd consecutive loss after starting the season 8-1.
After the game, Freeze was asked about the Auburn opening and offered the following.
“I’m not one to tell them something that’s not true,” Freeze said of his players and colleagues at Liberty. “… Is the job everyone is talking about one that I would have an interest in talking with? Sure. That doesn’t mean they have offered me a job.”
