Mizzou finalizing a deal to hire new offensive coordinator, per report
Missouri has identified its next offensive coordinator as the Tigers look to replace former OC Bush Hamdan, who last month left for Boise State.
Pete Thamel of ESPN reported that Missouri is finalizing a deal to make Fresno State OC Kirby Moore the school’s next offensive coordinator and quarterback coach. He was the OC/QB coach and play caller for Fresno State’s Mountain West champion this year.
Moore was part of the Fresno State coaching staff since Jeff Tedford initially hired him as the wide receivers coach in 2017. The 2022 season was his sixth season on the staff.
Fresno State was No. 53 in the country in total offense this season as it averaged 402 yards per game, and in scoring offense, Fresno State was No. 49, at 30.6 points per game.
In 2021, the Bulldogs amassed over 4,000 yards through the air for just the fourth time in program history, totaling 4,247 yards on the year, according to his Fresno bio. The Bulldogs were led by two all-conference selections in Jalen Cropper (second team) and Josh Kelly (honorable mention). Fresno State had two wide receivers selected as all-conference caliber players for two consecutive seasons under Moore as the position coach.
Could be sneaky good hire…
Any relation to Kellen Moore OC of the Cowboys? Moore is good, Moore is better, Moore is what we needed. Good on Drink to empty his plate a little bit and hire a legit OC. This really changes the mood and outlook heading into Spring ball for the better.
They’re brothers.
For real? If so even Moore better, good genes!
At least Drink is trying to keep me on the bus.
or riding shotgun in his dump truck.
Always liked Drink but man, sometimes he makes it hard to.
Exactly two people in the world are named Kirby and their both in the SEC
They’re lol
sounds like he could be a good hire. congrats.
Yay Mizzou is gonna pass the ball again. Look for Burden to be the game breaker everyone thinks he could be
This is exactly what drink needed to do to win back our trust. I don’t know much about Kirby Moore but it sounds like he did a great job at Fresno.
It would’ve been a real struggle to watch another year of drink’s offense, my interest is renewed.
Hiring somebody with a record of success beats hiring a pro coach with a record like Wilks. Would have been happy with Petrino as OC but this should work too.
I’m liking the direction. Now we need a scrambling gun slinger under center & a re-tooled O-Line.
Does Fresno St have a good QB hitting the portal?
I’m hoping, along with a few linemen.
Just looked, their QB1 has completed his eligibility, his backup did play when starter had a high ankle sprain, but from what I saw pretty big drop-off, but both completed over 70% of their passes.
I don’t know enough about this hire yet to have a strong opinion one way or the other, but I don’t think averaging 30 points per game is going to be adequate. I think he’s going to need to average between 35 and 40, and I know that’s a lot, but it is an average meaning that he will have to win some games, scoring 28 and other games scoring 45
For example, Missouri had a decent defense last year and Tennessee still put up over 60 points against the Tigers, so I just don’t see how averaging three points in game going to get the job done in the Tigers in the SEC
No idea yet what kind of offense Moore runs…but a better offense also improves the defense.
Just the fact he finally decided (was forced) to hire someone else to run the offense is enough for me to have a positive opinion about this hire. Will it be a good one, great one, mediocre or bad one, will be determined over the next couple of years. But that would be the case no matter who he hired, big name or not, never any guarantees.
I’d rather have a young up-and-coming high-ceiling coach than a worn out old retread. Every great coach was a no-name in the past. Mizzou is never going to draw the elite coaches so the next best thing is a promising guy who succeeded at a lower level.
With the talent Mizzou has on offense right now, I think the right coach could do what Blake baker did for the defense.
Now drink can focus on running the program and recruiting.
