The NFL has decided on the venue of the neutral site for the AFC Championship Game in the event that it’s the Kansas City Chiefs vs. the Buffalo Bills.

The league has announced that in that scenario, the AFC Championship Game will be held at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of the Atlanta Falcons.

The neutral site decision was decided due to the Bills vs. Cincinnati Bengals game being postponed after Bills safety Damar Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest. Had the game been finished, AFC playoff seeding may have worked out differently.

Mercedes-Benz Stadium has hosted several major football games since opening in 2017, including Super Bowl LIII, the 2018 CFP National Championship Game, and annually is the site for the SEC Championship Game.

In this season’s SEC Championship Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Georgia defeated LSU 50-30 en route to claiming a second consecutive national title. The Bulldogs returned to Atlanta and topped Ohio State 42-41 in a thrilling Peach Bowl that served as a College Football Playoff semifinal.
