Following a solid rookie campaign where he finished with 3,800 yards and led the New England Patriots to a playoff berth, Mac Jones has taken quite the step back in 2022.

While the Patriots are still in the playoff hunt, Jones has been a middle of the pack starter at best. Currently, he has 2,753 yards and 11 touchdowns to go with 8 interceptions — a leap back from the type of borderline star numbers that were expected out of him this season.

The former Alabama QB’s play this season has drawn many critics upon his name from fans to media. Boomer Esiason is one of those critics. In an appearance on The Greg Hill Show, the former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback and current CBS Sports analyst showed his true feelings on Jones’ performance.

“Here’s the thing that I really dislike about Mac Jones if you want to get to the root of it,” Esiason said. “His body language, his facial expressions, his gyrations on the field piss me off. There’s a douchiness to them.”

He later added some context to the statement, saying that Tom Brady carries himself the same way. Esiason said that while the body language may be similar in the two quarterbacks, Brady has earned the right to do so.

“[Brady] goes and plays his ass off and gets his team to the playoffs again,” Esiason said.

Maybe some of Esiason’s criticisms will go away in Week 18. Jones still has a chance to lead his squad to a second-straight playoff appearance with a win over AFC East champion Buffalo Bills.
