Greg Sankey flexes on the SEC making the national championship again, for the 8th straight season
Greg Sankey is so used to the SEC reaching the national championship, he’s not sure what it’s like without a team playing for the trophy.
After Georgia beat Ohio State in the Peach Bowl on Saturday, Sankey, the SEC commissioner, reflected on the latest accomplishment.
“At the beginning of the fourth quarter — I’ve never been to the national championship without a team,” Sankey said on Sirius XM. “We’ve got 2 teams twice, and it wasn’t looking like — it wasn’t looking great. So to have the outcome we have, and to have a team with us, is what we expect, it’s what we want. Credit to Ohio State, that was a great football game, but it means a great deal, it means more, as we say.”
Sankey pointed out that the SEC is the only conference to have 3 different teams win championships, and also have 2 teams play in the national championship game, and added, “We’re the conference that’s won the most. So we’ve got yet another opportunity and I think that’s the expectation we’ve set. … We want to play high-level football, that’s the challenge we have.”
For the 8th consecutive season, the @SEC will have a team playing in the National Championship.

Yawn.
Come on Boochie, say it with us …
SEC! SEC! SEC! …..
I just feels so right.
Michigan didn’t deserve to beat TCU. Wonder if Sankey would ever flex on his SEC officiating crews and replay center because both teams had calls against them that were reviewed and were incorrect. Not saying ACC refs are any better, but why did OSU/Georgia get Pac-12 refs with no dog in the hunt, why did TCU/Michigan get SEC and not ACC with no dog in the hunt?
So you think officials are crooked?
Never said that. Every article during the season, all SEC fans complain about the refs. Why did SEC ref one CFP when they have a dog in the hunt with Georgia and the ACC didn’t when they have no dog in the hunt? Both TCU and Michigan got screwed by calls. The TD that called back for Michigan, I’m not going to complain about the catch spot, Michigan intercepted it on TCU’s 48 and they moved it back to Michigan’s 48. Michigan’s execution was poor and they didn’t deserve to win, but refs have to do better for both sides.
The Fiesta Bowl had no effect of UGA of course. I guess you figure the SEC officials could have decided they wanted UGA to play TCU instead of Michigan before the game.
Is it your stance that other fans don’t whine about officiating? Just SEC fans? Some that some fine critical thinking.
Just saying why did SEC refs get the nod over another conference refs? What is the criteria? Evaluation? Does Sankey or any other presidents have a say?
The SEC gets 6 games. With the numerous amounts of SEC teams participating in Bowl games it is probably somewhat difficult to assign them.
Boohoo. You’re hilarious. How about just play better and win.
From a lifelong Dawg fan, it just seems like the SEC was more of a family before the Missouri, Texas A&M expansion and now Oklahoma, Texas. I know it’s necessary and I understand why, but from a cultural aspect it just hasn’t felt the same since. SEC chants just don’t hit the same.
