Mark Stoops and the Kentucky Wildcats suffocated Louisville 26-13 Saturday to win the Governor’s Cup. The Wildcats have now won 4 straight over the Cardinals.

Will Levis finished 11-of-19 for 188 yards and 2 touchdowns. Barion Brown and Dane Key both recorded receiving touchdowns. Chris Rodriguez recorded 24 carries for 120 yards to help put away Louisville. Kentucky also won the time of possession battle 32:45 to 27:15.

Kentucky’s defense caused havoc for Louisville’s offense all day, forcing 2 interceptions and 1 fumble.

Following the win over Louisville, Stoops was interviewed by ESPN’s crew on the field. Below is everything he said.

On Kentucky’s win …

“It was a hard-fought game. We knew it would be. Louisville’s really playing good football, and we needed to respond and play better and worry about ourselves. Really proud of our team, because it’s been a really tough year, but it is for everybody. There’s a lot of ups and downs, and I like the way we responded. I would like to have a few more wins like most people, but they fought hard here tonight.”

On the defensive performance and energy …

“Really solid. Really good. I love their competitive spirit. They did it the same way the last couple of weeks. I like how hard they played. Good things will happen when you play that hard. We had a lot of penalties early, but we overcame them. The guys again played with that passion and that heart and toughness that we’re looking for.”

On Chris Rodriguez’s 20th 100-yard game …

“Just amazing, really tough. He’s right here. Just some of those runs at the end were just truly amazing. The four-minute offense and the way he grinds out some tough yards. We needed it. Really proud of him and I love him.”
