Steve Spurrier believes Billy Napier has brought an attitude to Gainesville that the program lacked a little bit the last year or so.

Spurrier made an appearance in the SEC Network+ booth on Thursday night during the Gators spring game, and talked with Chris Doering about the team. Spurrier said Napier should hold all of his staff accountable, which is a contrast from the previous coaching staff under Dan Mullen.

“The head coach is responsible for everything, and I think that’s why we made a change last year,” Spurrier said. “… I think attitude and effort will be something that the Gators will get back to doing very well.”

At halftime of the spring game, QB Anthony Richardson was 13-for-15 passing for 167 yards and 2 TDs, while fellow QB Jack Miller III was 10-for-18 for 104 yards, and an interception. Running back Montrell Johnson had a team-high 33 yards rushing with a touchdown.

Spurrier also offered his thoughts on Richardson.

“I think something we all know, Anthony Richardson is a talented player, and he can be big-time for us,” Spurrier said. “Hopefully he can stay very healthy this year, he can throw the ball, he can run. Hopefully we’ll use him occasionally running, not dominantly. He’s an excellent passer. See that throw there, he’s a natural quarterback.”
