Jordan Burch, South Carolina DL and former 5-star recruit, reportedly decides on future
South Carolina defensive lineman Jordan Burch has officially revealed his plans for the 2023 season, and he won’t be staying with the Gamecocks.
According to a report from college football analyst Max Olson, Burch has entered the transfer portal and will prepare to play with a change of scenery next year. Burch was formerly a 5-star recruit.
Burch has been a big piece of the defense for the team and will be so at his next destination. He finished out the season with 60 total tackles (32 solo), 3.5 sacks, 3 passes defended and 1 fumble recovery. So far on his career, he posts 105 combined tackles (55 solo), 4.5 sacks, 4 passes defended, 1 interception and 1 touchdown.
It will be interesting to see where he lands next and how this affects South Carolina moving forward.
South Carolina DL Jordan Burch has entered the transfer portal, @TheAthletic has learned.
Huge news. Burch was a 5-star recruit and produced 60 tackles, 40 pressures and 7.5 TFLs this season.

A local defecting? Has to be Tater or UGA NIL money calling him.
Word on the street is Oregon $$$.
4.5 sacks in 3 seasons is replaceable
The street ain’t always right!!!!! We will soon see, but Georgia can afford anything Oregon can…..
PS. And then some!!!

That and potentially….. BACK TO BACK NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME APPEARANCES WITH A SHOT AT HISTORY MAYBE????

According to a source close to the program it’s already happened with one of our other portal transfers. So, we have become the equivalent of MLB’s free agency, except the players don’t have contracts at all. Dabo might be right that it is going to ruin college football. The monied programs will just buy their players on signing day, and then just poach anyone else they want from other teams. Anyone care to disagree? Too bad for Johnny Manziel, he was about 10 years too early to really cash in on this. Cam Newton’s father did alright though.

4.5 sacks in 3 years no loss here. Bye.
He never did play up to his star rating. Surprised he is leaving though.
More stars than sacks
Bill……Nobody lives up on defense at south Carolina THESE DAYS, because of NO DEPTH!!!! A player cannot play 60 minutes without help and do anything!!!
Why????
Because anybody can scheme around anybody!!!!! You can’t just stop one, two at most three Georgia players and be alright!!! Yes you must usually deal with 11 players and they have depth at Georgia!!!!!
Burch would be better at Oregon, or Georgia and it’s just a fact!!!! As long as he listens to coaching!!!!!
PS. Would love to see him at Georgia but at Georgia we are still going to be stacked next season to!!!!
DO NOT DOUBT THE DAWGS FOLKS!!!

I would rather see him stay, but I do agree that his production versus his hype has been woeful. Furthermore, at least now I won’t have to complain about him crashing the middle and losing contain game after game after game. Ultimately, the whole “four star”, “five star”, star system in general is full of holes….I say go get true football players who are good enough athletes instead of drooling over phenom athletes and trying to mold them in to football players….SC will be more than fine without this guy….good luck to him, and thanks for his efforts….but his absence will not amount to much.
You want to be Iowa and Wisconsin so bad. Players win championships you need the athletes
Wrong. Although I despise them, I would much rather SC “look like” Clemson.
SC beat clemson!!!! You should want to look like Georgia and yea, Alabama!!! They had a bad season for them, but it’s a dream season for south Carolina!!!!
PS. You crawl before you walk. You walk before you run!!!!!

I’d watch out for Miami, Burch was this close to signing with Coach O/LSU and something tells me that means he ends up in South Florida
Of course, he DID sign with Will Muschamp, so UGA is right there too
Not sure he would be a starter at UGA. He will have to get in better shape for sure.
Georgia came in 2nd in his recruiting. WILL Muschamp ultimately won the recruiting battle. Now he is at home in GEORGIA!!!!!
PS. If Burch doesn’t come to Georgia. Either Georgia isn’t currently recruiting him, or money is talking period!!!!!!!

” at Georgia “
I said from Day One that NIL is going to ruin college sports. At the end of the day all the best players are going to follow the $$$$. Texas and ND will lead the way when the big money starts flowing. Just a meter of time.
For the rest of us we will just have to enjoy the game for what it is and the game atmosphere, tailgating and over look the outcome.
Not so sure about that…..I think over the long haul you will indeed see the Texas’ and ND’s of the world “buy” teams, but that does not necessarily translate to guaranteed wins. I think one positive outcome of NIL is that it will force teams like SC to really focus on recruiting hard-core football players instead of the bright-shiny object “athletes” who SC hope can eventually translate in to football players….you know the type…they run a 4.3 40, but refuse to work the middle and can’t catch a cold….they are physical specimens but refuse to tackle properly….SC’s teams over the past five years have been littered with such garbage (thankfully Beamer is changing that)….and then aling comes a player like Adkins, who was not highly recruited, is not a physical specimen/super athlete, and lo and behold, he is such a good football player that SC had to totally change their offense when he was injured. Focus on true football players, and they will beat a gaggle of athletes every time (unless a track meet breaks out in the middle of the game).
NIL STINKS BUT COACHING MATTERS TO!!!!! ILL TAKE A LESS TALENTED TEAM WITH ELITE COACHING OVER ELITE BOUGHT ROSTERS WITH AVERAGE OR TERRIBLE COACHING!!!!!!
Oops I’m not yelling. Sometimes I just don’t think about the caps button. Remember that team Steve Spurrier coached???? It wasn’t a completely elite roster but you had some players. Still with far less talent. I recall SC taking Alabama to the woodshed!!!! And Alabama had a better roster and great coaching!!!
I believe NIL will eventually work itself out. Because I believe ” THE NCAA MONEY PEOPLE ” aren’t going to allow a few boosters to destroy their CASH COW called college football!!!!
The second ratings or h begin to really suffer. The NCAA will magically grow a sack and probably march on the street for government to get together and PASS NIL CONTROL LAW!!!!!
PS. Imagine the MILLIONS that would MARCH TO SAVE COLLEGE FOOTBALL???? LOL

ALSO, REMEMBER LAWMAKERS ARE COLLEGE FOOTBALL FANS AS WELL. MOST PRESIDENTS ARE!!!!
They all went to college. They all have a school they love. So I believe it eventually gets worked out!!!!! If the NCAA didn’t make so much. Then I would worry!!!!!
Yet…….
PS. Since they do, I’m confident it eventually gets worked out!!!! Until that time it kinda stinketh as the morning toilet bowl!!!!!! LOL

Coaching is far more important than talent….on that we can agree.
Good luck to him and I hope he has a good future – but Gamecock Nation wanted him to stay. He played his best game in the Gator Bowl and we were looking forward to him and a monster 2023 year.
NIL and the transfer portal together are the ruin. I don’t begrudge anyone getting some NIL money or transferring but the combination is leading to unlimited free agency every year. Heck – even free agency in the NFL has it’s parameters.
All the rats are jumping ship Bell, Lynch, Burch… why? Coaching? NIL? Wanting to play for a better team? All of the above? NIL and the portal are going to ruin college football. Teams will be able to buy championship with NIL $$. NIL $$ need to be capped just like the NFL salary cap, or at least similarly. Pay everyone on the team a flat fee, they are already getting a free education. Make the playing field level so to speak and it will fix this issue.
