Alabama OC rumors: Former SEC head coach not a candidate for vacant Crimson Tide job, per report

Dan Mullen is reportedly not a candidate for the vacant Alabama offensive coordinator job, one that was left vacant a few days ago when former OC Bill O’Brien announced a return to the New England Patriots.

According to ESPN’s Chris Low, Mullen shot down rumors that he would be heading to Tuscaloosa, instead choosing to focus on his family and TV career as an analyst.

Mullen spent time as head coach at Mississippi State and Florida. He propelled the Bulldogs to a No. 1 ranking in 2014, finishing the year 10-2. At Florida, Mullen started strong and fizzled out until finishing his final year 5-6. It was just his 2nd losing season as head coach, with the other being his first year at Mississippi State.

A good chunk of Alabama fans probably won’t be upset by this news.

  • Any Bama fan who didn't want Sideshow Dan as their OC would truly be a dumb Gump.

This was the one dude I was most worried about being hired at the Saban Home for Wayward Coaches.

    • No thanks. Dan is a terrible recruiter, could not develop Anthony Richardson and lost his team. Time for some young talent like the guy from Tulane.

  • I look for Saban to steal Georgia's two tight end system cause it creates match up problems in the passing game and leaves 7 in the box in the running game. That's hard to stop, that why Georgia is now the best overall football program in college football.

    • He’s not stealing anything. You always say ga this ga that better than Alabama .. it’s sad that you let one team stay in your head and it’s not even the one you pull for envy is a bad look I mean every new article here they come and it’s not even your teams article

        • Dougie mentioned in an article a month or two ago that he was tired of all the 1980 jokes and jabs about Georgia. He is now a “full blown troll” returning the favor in full force. Talk about a thin skinned inferior snowflake.

      • Georgia outscored every team it faced this season. Having 7 on the line of scrimmage wears a team down. Ohio State had 4 NFL type receivers and Georgia outscored them in the end.

        • correlation vs causation Doug. Georgia has superior athletes over every team they played. Your argument is about running 2 TEs. Teams that don't have Georgia's luxury which is everyone, cannot guarantee the same success. Also if Georgia continues to dominate the TE market will other teams that switch to that system find success? I highly doubt it.
