Alabama sets NFL record for former players to appear in 1 season
Alabama set an NFL record for former players from a school to appear in games throughout a single season.
In the 2022 season, Alabama became the 1st college program to feature 70 of its former players in 1 season. In Week 15, the Cleveland Browns-Baltimore Ravens game featured a total of 8 former Alabama players. Most notably, the Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey and Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper were the standout players on both sides of the ball.
Cooper recorded 4 receptions for 58 receiving yards in the win. The Browns added linebacker Reggie Ragland to the roster in early December, which increased the total number of former Alabama players on the Browns’ roster to 5. Ragland helped get the total number of Alabama players to 70 with his recent appearances in Cleveland’s last few games.
Throughout the NFL, there is at least 1 former Alabama player on 28 teams. The New England Patriots hold the most Alabama players on its roster with 6 players. Those players are defensive tackle Christian Barmore, running back Damien Harris, linebacker Anfernee Jennings, quarterback Mac Jones, defensive tackle LaBryan Ray, and linebacker Mack Wilson Sr.
Alabama was been a football factory for decades and Nick Saban was able to turn the program into a direct feeder into the NFL. 15 years into Saban’s tenure at Alabama, the program remains a great place for college football players to prepare for a career in the NFL.
