Calzada was expected to challenge for the starting job when he transferred to Auburn, but ended up as the third-stringer behind T.J. Finley and Robby Ashford.
His highlight in the SEC was on October 9, 2021 when he threw for 285 yards and three touchdowns to help Texas A&M upset then-No. 1 Alabama, 41-38.
Calzada will head to Incarnate Word to replace Lindsey Scott Jr., who won the Walter Payton Award and was named a first-team FCS All-American. Scott accumulated over 5,000 yards in total offense last season.
Zach , I don’t think, ever meant to play at Auburn. The outside gossip claims his shoulder injury was diagnosed as 90% needed surgery. Why not transfer to the place that is known for the best surgeon in the world when it comes to sports related injuries. His shoulder got the surgery it needed and he’s good to go. The best money could buy all at a cost of free and done by the best. Nice sit for a year. He can’t be scared of a QB race with what’s on the roster now. Good luck and Auburn says “ you welcome”
Supposedly, Auburn still needs a QB and his shoulder is now good to go. So, why not stick around and compete for an SEC starting job?
Instead, he chose to go play QB at football powerhouse Incarnate Word. Something tells me that, even with a healthy shoulder, he still s u c k s!
AU has two QBs as of right now. Ashford will be fine under Freeze’s coaching. AU is bringing in recruits on O-line as well. Just a matter of time before QB’s start to pop in.
It’s a numbers game Ron. Depth at QB begins at three. Four would be much better. Auburn got #3 via their HS recruiting class and need one more QB in their room.
The problem with Calzada is that he’s not good enough to be #1 on an SEC team, even Auburn. So, he moved on… all the way down to IW just to make sure he gets to start!
As an Aggie, I can empathize with your feelings. It’s a pretty cs move in my opinion as well. I believe that he could have beat out the other two QBs I guess he was afraid of the running aspects under Freeze but he has a live arm. No question about that. IMO he will likely light it up at IW and if not for Connor Weigman I think he would have ended up starting at A&M over King and Johnson.
