Heisman Trophy finalists share their perspective on Stetson Bennett ahead of ceremony
Caleb Williams has a unique relationship with Stetson Bennett, especially when compared to the other Heisman Trophy finalists.
When Williams was a high school recruit, Bennett hosted Williams on his official visit to Georgia. Williams told reporters that he and Bennett texted the other day in the lead-up to the Heisman weekend. On Friday, with Bennett nearby, Williams admitted how unbelievable it is that they’re both at the Heisman ceremony as finalists.
“It’s kind of funny how it came full circle,” Williams said, per Dawgs247. “Him being here with me, it’s special.”
The other 2 finalists also shared their thoughts on Bennett, including Ohio State’s CJ Stroud, who added that he told Bennett how great it is that he can inspire other people to follow in his footsteps.
“That’s the thing about football: It doesn’t matter what size you are, what color, where you come from, this game at the end of the day can make you humble and it’ll show you who you really are as a man,” Stroud said. “I definitely think that he stepped up to the plate, so I tip my hat off to him.”
TCU’s Max Duggan agreed, and added that Bennett’s confidence in himself stands out.
“You know, the kid’s a special player. You watch him on Saturdays. The dude, yeah, he makes those things roll down there,” Duggan said. “[What Bennett has accomplished is] awesome, you know? It shows a lot of self-belief, that he believes in himself and he’s going to continue to work, continue to get better. You know, not anybody can tell him what he needs to do, so it’s been awesome to watch.”
