Desmond Howard talks significance of GameDay at Jackson State, addresses Deion Sanders to the Power 5
Desmond Howard and the rest of ESPN’s College Gameday will be on the campus of Jackson State this weekend when the undefeated Tigers take on Southern University. Jackson State is where Deion Sanders sits as head coach and has brought a lot of attention to the program.
Howard was a guess on ESPN’s First Take this morning and talked about the reception that the College Gameday crew has gotten around the campus and the city.
“There’s a strong sense of gratification…shining a light on their community and their city — not just their team and this football program.”
Jackson State is 7-0 this season and ranked fifth in the FCS coaches poll. The Tigers are 20-5 since Sanders arrived at the program.
“I told the players at Jackson State, ‘Gameday is not here as some sort of charity, you guys earned this opportunity and you deserve this opportunity’.”
In a clip of Howard’s interview with Sanders, the NFL and College Football Hall of Famer said he would entertain an offer from a Power 5 school. Auburn, which is currently not an open job, and Georgia Tech, which fired head coach Geoff Collins several weeks ago, have been mentioned as places that might have interest in Sanders.
Where do you think Sanders next coaching stop should be…or should he stay at Jackson State?
