Bama fans, I hope this does not happen. While I believe Coaches can change and get better but in this case, just say no. Notice, I am a Dawgs fan and I hope Grantham does not become your DC. Just no.
Well, Bama didn't think Hurts was good enough because of his passing ability and after one year at Oklahoma, he was a Heisman finalist because of his passing ability.
Great article! What he's done is unbelievable. The Eagles brass look like geniuses and the brass of other teams who passed on him but still need a quarterback do not.
Doug, isn't the same true for guys who left Bama?
He's a good player and injuries hurt him early on but even after fully healthy, the other guys were just a little better. I hope he does well and gets a shot at the NFL.
2 in 42 years is accurate, but so is 2 in the last 2 years, so....
So the next OC is going to get Bama to what, 45 or 50 points per game? I bet Bama averaged at least 35 against Power 5 competition which is more of an indicator of how good an offense is. The points against lesser competition doesn't matter to me. If O'Brien leaves and Monken leaves us, the next OC will have a difficult time exceeding what those guys have done.
Bennett coasted? How did he coast and win offensive MVP in every playoff game he was in? There was no 100 yard rusher in any game so where did the offense come from? If a QB coasted,it was McCaron.
I just can't believe so many people question whether Bama will be as relevant in 2023 as they have been for the last decade. They have not finished lower than third in recruiting in over a decade and Coach Saban has done an exceptional job of replacing staff members for over a decade. Yes, they have questions at QB but they have exceptional talent at every other position so they may not be as explosive on offense as in the past but who in the West is hands down better than Bama? They don't have a Williams or Metchie at receiver, but they don't need that to win. We've won back-to-back titles with our top receivers being a shell of themselves in the playoffs due to injury in both years. I just believe with the talent they have; they will be right back atop the West and headed to Atlanta for another fight with the Dawgs!
There's a lot of other coaches who learned under Saban and have not done well. Do they owe that to Saban too? If it was as simple as working under Saban, they all would have the same results. Saban played his part but the majority of his former coaches success or failure is on them.
Did Bama get a lucky break when Colt McCoy got injured in the first quarter of the 2009 Natty? What no one will ever know is how the games would have turned out if Bama and Ohio State had not lost key players. It's pure speculation to suggest otherwise. Did Bama get lucky that our top pass rusher was not in the game in 2021 and our top receiver was coming off an ACL and was a shell of himself? See the Pittsburgh Steelers if you don't think a fully healthy George Pickens would not have made more of a difference in the game. Did Ohio State get lucky that our top pass rusher was not in the Peach Bowl? Maybe Stroud would not have had as much time to throw as he did. Just put a team on the field and live with the results.
Well stated by Emmitt. That message should be heard by the administration and boosters at most schools. Don't compare coaches to Saban. Most schools should probably take the Clemson and UGA approach. Hire someone you believe in and give them time.
Ohio State is clearly number 2 in my opinion. It took a missed field goal that was within their kickers range for us to win. That includes them playing without Smith-Njigba who is just as good if not better than Harrison, and without their best running back. I just don't believe Bama's pass defense would have held up against Ohio State nor would any other team. Michigan beat them with two big plays late in the game. The final score made the game look more one-sided than the play on the field. I would not put Tennesse in the top 4 simply because in the biggest game of their season in Athens, their all-world offense with their Heisman candidate QB did not show up and I feel the same about TCU. I would go Dawgs, Ohio State, Bama, and Michigan.
That is a very bad move for whomever made that decision!! Fans can yell all kinds of improper things at players from their courtside seats but a fan can't hold up that particular sign. What???
If playing in the East helps us immensely, then when we play the vaunted West we should lose then, right? No, what helps us immensely is we have superior talent than almost every team in college football and a coaching staff that is exceptional. If we were in the West, then over the last two years it would still come down to us and Bama. One would enter the playoff an undefeated SEC champion and the other's only loss would be to the SEC champion. Now, I will say, LSU is on the way back because Brian Kelly is a great coach and great recruiter but for the last two years, we've been the best team in the country regardless of what division and conference.
Bama has not slipped. They have first rounders on both sides of the ball. They did not play their best against Tennesse or LSU defensively and lost. Sometimes team don't play their best and lose and sometimes they win (see us against Missouri). We have been nipping at Bama's heels since 2017 because we came up to their level. Their sustained dominance makes them the best program of the last 15 years but for the last two years, we've ruled college football. In 2023, they are going to try to take it back and we're going to try to keep it! This off season will be FILLED with a level of anticipation for the upcoming season for me that is unlike any other in my lifetime. Is Tennesse actually back as a SEC contender? What will Auburn look like? Is Jalen Milroe ready for prime time at Bama? Is Carson Beck ready for prime time at UGA? Has South Carolina really turned the corner? Is A&M ready to win beyond a recruiting battle? Will LSU become Bama's biggest threat in the West?
Taking Bennett out was Smart extending an olive branch and Dykes chose to ignore it and kept his starters in and kept trying to score. So absolutely Smart should have gone for it on 4th down. If TCU is going to keep trying to score, then so should we.
Does anyone think we don't have this two year run if Aaron Murray or David Greene is the QB? I am a Stetson fan but I can't say he is clearly better than those guys were. He has better stats but part of that is he played in a different offense than they did. Through 14 games, he's attempted 429 passes and that's mainly playing 2 1/2 quarters and handing off for 1 1/2 quarters with double digit leads. Stats are not everything. I can say he has won more significant/important games than any QB in Georgia history because of the playoffs.
Who's more clutch in Georgia history?
I am less impressed with his awards because those are subject to someone else's opinion. His play from the semi-finals in 2021 up until this day is what's unmatched by any other Georgia QB and sets him apart. David Greene had a heck of a career as did Aaron Murray and they are two of the winningest QB's is Georgia history but these last 16 games by Stetson is unparalleled.
Yes, he has had an elite career and while he's not the most talented Dawgs QB ever nor the winningest in terms of overall won-loss record, but if they win this game Monday night, Stetson will undoubtedly be the QB with the most significant and important wins in UGA history. Three wins so far in the playoffs in successive years is exceptional.
He may be short, he may be a game manager, and he may indeed be selling insurance some day. Or he may be writing articles about college kids on Saturday Down South.
Our kicker missed two field goals that were within his range but we're lucky their kicker missed one? Well, we're equally lucky....and now here comes the big, bad horned Frawgs to really put us in our place because they beat Michigan and we lucked our way past Ohio State. Okay.
I'm of the opinion that the hardest thing about repeating is actually getting back to the championship game. Once you're there, your experience is an advantage. TCU is legit but we're not Michigan. We probably won't help them as much as Michigan did with questionable offensive plays inside the 5 yard line.
We have to give OSU credit for how they defended Bowers.
I can't believe how under rated OSU was. My friends laughed at me when I told them OSU was a physical team and Michigan beat them on big plays, 3 long passes and 2 long runs. They did not dominate OSU in the trenches. Great program, Great team and I'm happy we stole this one.
