Brett McMurphy releases Way-Too-Early Top 25 rankings for 2023
Brett McMurphy of Action Network is out with his Way-Too-Early Top 25 rankings for 2023. He’s still high on the Georgia Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs rank No. 1 in Action Network’s Way-Too-Early Top 25 rankings of 2023. Rounding out the top 5 are No. 2 Alabama, No. 3 Michigan, No. 4 Florida State and No. 5 Ohio State.
McMurphy notes that these rankings are fluid based on how coaching changes and the transfer portal shake out this offseason.
The top 10 wraps up with No. 6 LSU, No. 7 Penn State, No. 8 Washington, No. 9 Clemson and No. 10 Oregon.
By conference, the Pac-12 leads the way with 6 teams, followed by the ACC (5), SEC (4), Big 12 (4), Big Ten (3), AAC (1), Sun Belt (1) and Notre Dame.
.@CFBPlayoff title game is less than 24 hours away so here’s No. 1 Georgia & my next 24 teams in my @ActionNetworkHQ Top 25 Way-Too-Early Rankings for 2023 https://t.co/Rw4K2MbZQK pic.twitter.com/uPXWDjlUgn

Florida State number 4????
Tennessee not even in the Top 10???????????????????????
These rankings are terrible.
Every single important player on your roster is leaving.
Have fun with 7-5 or 8-4.
Every single one? We still have most of our important on our roster. Milton’s going to be fine in my personal opinion. We have plenty of recievers that are going to take the next step. We are pulling in defensive players in the 2023 recruiting, so I have no reason to think that we might take a step back.
If Tenn plays how they played vs. Clemson I think we’ll easily get back to 10+ wins again.
important people**
Milton may be fine, but until he proves he is as good as Hooker, it will be hard for Tennessee to repeat a 10-win season. Not impossible, but hard. I don’t understand how a win against Clemson indicates an easy 10-win season next year. Y’all do have quite possible the weakest non-conference schedule I have seen from an SEC team though.
What i meant by a win against Clemson was that our defense had finally stepped up all year, and if they can start playing like that all next season I think we can get back to 10+ wins again.
Milton doesn’t even HAVE to be as good as Hooker. Our defense just needs to play better.
volfan – 2 things-
1) you are trying to converse intelligently with one of the biggest vol trolls on sds. A giant waste of time.
2) milton is not as good as hooker. Its possible he will be but not a given by any stretch. We lost the biletnikoff winner. we have some very good receivers coming back but none that showed that capability. The defense changing dramatically is also a stretch, dont you think. They may be better (though its hard to say that with a high level of confidence) but they may be about the same. heups system will keep us in games. if Joe progresses we will be ok. But another 10 win regular season is hard to predict. possible but not probable. I think its better from a psyche perspective to start off around #15 or so.
Our schedule is honestly looking pretty easy looking at it. We have SC which i think we will win since it’s at home. Florida which I think we will win against but it might be closer than people think. We have TA&M which let’s be honest, TA&M is a dumpster fire right now so i expect us to win against them handily. Alabama and Georgia are the only games where I expect us to lose to.
EKingGill…have you looked at the OOC schedules for everyone. Tennessee’s is not good but good grief some others are just as bad if not worse. UGA, Auburn, Kentucky, MSU, and Ole Miss are awful!
@volsfan72 All those are pretty bad as well. Ole Miss at least has Tulane, but I don’t know how good they will bet. Virginia is also better than I thought the last couple years.
Tennessee will be top 10 next year if they play like they did in the bowl game. There will be a lot of roster upgrades next next season.
That looks about right minus the FSU at 4. But they did have a good season. I just think it’s too early to put them back in top 5.
No kansas? Is McMurphy the kansas homer turning on them already?
This poll means nothing, but Bama at #2 seems a bit high considering all the uncertainty at coordinator and QB going into next season.
It means Bama is ranked too high.
Alabama is too high IMO. Top 10, Top 7 even, yeah, but not #2.
Florida State may be a bit high, but they are returning the bulk of their team including their top edge rusher, their QB, RBs, good LBs, and I think Wilson is returning at WR? He’s a beast at 6’7″.
Tennessee may be a bit steep, but they are losing their top 2 or 3 WR targets plus the TE?
I mean Florida State showed a lot of improvement but #4 is a bit much
Because they have most of their starters returning.
Could be a matchup of Top 5 or Top 7 teams between FSU and LSU come first Sunday of September.
Only four SEC teams in the top 25. When was the last time that number was so low? I certainly like LSU at 7 with a huge first game against FSU.
