Damar Hamlin has taken to social media to share a lengthy video message thanking everyone for their support and care.

It’s the first direct statement from Hamlin on video since he left the hospital. Previous public comments from Hamlin came via tweets.

Hamlin attended Buffalo’s playoff game against Cincinnati but did not speak on the CBS Sports broadcast. CBS cameras showed the suite where Hamlin was watching the game. Snowy weather in Buffalo made it difficult to get a good view of inside the suite.

Hamlin tweeted a brief video clip. The full video, which runs over 5 minutes, was posted on Instagram.

Hamlin said he felt the time was right to share a video statement.

“I think it was important for me to wait, and speak publicly at the right time, as it was just a lot to process within my own self, mentally, physically, even spiritually.”

“I can’t tell you how appreciative of all the love, all the support and everything that’s just been coming my way.”

Hamlin thanked those who provided care on the field and in the hospital. He also acknowledged the outpouring of donations to his “Chasing M’s Foundation” charity:

“Thank you to everyone who donated to the Chasing M’s Foundation, my mind is blown by all the support. I don’t have the words to express my gratitude for the support.”
