Sonny Dykes talks SEC speed, explains portal additions from SEC programs
The entire nation saw what TCU head coach Sonny Dykes saw on Monday night in the national championship beatdown that Georgia administered to his Horned Frogs.
Not only were the Bulldogs too big and too talented, they were way too fast for his underdog TCU team that was picked to finish way down in the Big 12 standings, but which played its way all the way to the brink of a national title.
Dykes knows that to get his program to that next level — to Georgia’s level — his roster needed some tweaks.
We asked TCU coach Sonny Dykes about the SEC speed that Georgia exhibited the other night, as well about him grabbing a bunch of SEC guys in the portal.

“You’re always looking for weaknesses and how to attack those weaknesses. Georgia had very few of them,” said Dykes. “What makes them special is that they’re very good up front. That, to me, is the biggest difference. They were really good up front offensively and really good up front defensively. Really, really solid football team.”
Dykes also talked about heading to the transfer portal to get some of that SEC-type talent that he saw up close on Monday night.
“That’s what we’re always trying to do. Some of those kids that are coming are local kids,” said Dykes, who couldn’t talk specifically about which players he’s bringing in from the SEC until they enroll at TCU.
“We recruit really hard. They may not choose TCU the first time, and our hope is that when they decide to move on for whatever reason (they choose TCU then).”
Georgia is not “the next level” up from TCU. There are a few “levels” between them.
I’d argue 58 levels.
LOL!
I wonder if he still wants to complain about the SEC conference schedules? Chump from a family of crooks. Go look up “Raegor-Dykes Ford” and you will see what I am referring to…
I thought the schedule complaining was petty but looked up the ford fiasco you mentioned. I didn’t see anyone with the last name dykes mentioned in the 16 people charged. I know dykes is in the dealership name but don’t know how he is connected. If he is a part owner it does not appear he nor any of his family (unless they have other names) are guilty of anything. Maybe he was just enough of an investor to get his name on the door…
He should have gone in with saban on a Benz dealership.
Its Spike Dykes’ other son, Rick Dykes. Spike Dykes was the head coach at Texas Tech in the 80’s and 90’s. No West Texas jury was gonna convict Rick. Bart Raegor, the other gentleman, was one of Tech’s QBs. Really a crazy story, I was in law school in Lubbock when that was going down.
Watch the video of him talking to his employees about “losers”. Guy thought he was the wolf of wall street lol
Rick escaped prosecution with the $58 million dollar settlement payment to Ford.
I think it was Brad Scott, who went to South Carolina after leading unreal offenses at FSU …who said that you have to come to the SEC from other leagues to REALLY understand the difference. I think he went 1-10 on his way out..
If you can’t beat ’em, recruit ’em. Good luck with that.
