Actually Hump, white is the reflection of all color wavelengths. Crecí en Venezuela cuando era un niño. Mi papá era un consultor de la Fuerza Aérea de los Estados Unidos por la Fuerza Aérea Venezolana. Supuestamente;-)
First, Saban's coaches need to recruit well. That disqualifies Mullen right off the bat. Second, there's a difference between being hyper-competitive and being driven to compete 24/7/365. Mullen is a Jimmy Buffett parrothead who loves to travel and play golf. He has the perfect life now. To continue the second point above, when guys opted out of the 2021 bowl game and then the 2021 season went south, Mullen's "competitiveness" very clearly checked out. He has a personality that completely gives up at a certain tipping point of negativity. He will not return to coaching because he "misses competition." He's just not that guy.
One of Urban Meyer's dirty little secrets is that he never coached anybody. He is a master recruiter and CEO head coach.
Actually, gentlemen, from a purely legal standpoint, a first amendment claim here is not so clear-cut. He has a right to say whatever he pleases, and the fact that he said what he did off-campus mitigates in his favor. But three things mitigate against him. The first is that he had no right to the scholarship; the school did not take it from him, they just didn't give it to him. It was within their discretion to withhold a scholarship not yet awarded, for any reason, or for no reason at all. The second is that scholarship contracts can typically be revoked for violations of the applicable student code of conduct. Provable utterances of racial slurs violate student codes of conduct. The third is the Supreme Court's 1969 Tinker decision, which, were he to overcome the hurdles above, would still give school officials the right to penalize him if they could reasonably foresee disruption to university activities and/or harm to other students as a result of his statement. A Tinker argument would turn on specific circumstances and he might be able to make an argument in his favor. But on the first two points, his lawsuit would likely not survive a motion to dismiss.
Everybody was wrong about Jalen Hurts. But the clues were there all along: father is a football coach, always behaved with impeccable class, always supported his teammates... and always clutch in tough situations. Also very durable, as quarterbacks go.
The only way Anthony Richardson gets drafted, much less drafted in the first two rounds, has nothing to do with his demonstrated on-field performance. It is simply a lottery ticket being purchased by a team that doesn't have a pressing need at another high value position, and either a bad quarterback or an aging quarterback, with the better alternatives (e.g., Young, Stroud) off the board. If he somehow magically and suddenly exploits his full physical talents, he has to play under the rookie salary cap rules for (I think) four years, allowing his team to spend money on other players and gain roster building financial leverage. But it's a pure lottery ticket and I will still be surprised if he is drafted, much less in the first two rounds.
Hump, I think old age is clouding your memory. I repeatedly said, after the Kentucky game choke, that Richardson has good mechanics but something is wrong between his ears, or words to that effect. I also acknowledged on a regular basis in 2021 and 2022 that Cox simply refused to play assignment football. Incidentally, for bonus credit, I've insisted for months that AR will not be drafted, something about which I am probably wrong because of the financial leverage an NFL team gains when they hit on a rookie quarterback under salary cap rules. If he is drafted in the first two rounds, as many say he will be, it will border on general manager malpractice for the franchise that drafts him. As for Dez, I've said he has very quick feet, which he does. Don't think that rises quite to the level of Heisman hype. But yes, generally speaking, I am and will continue to be a Gator optimist. And I do believe in and support Napier and will continue to do so until he displays an uncorrectable flaw.
MrTruth has created several monsters. I saw some things I liked in Miller during the Las Vegas Bowl. I'm not convinced that Mertz wins the starting job. Mertz is very talented and had a great high school career. Something went wrong at Wisconsin.
No Gator fan, me included, is particularly excited about Mertz, the characteristic MrTruth humor to the contrary notwithstanding. But here is an interesting analysis that might offer the faintest glimmer of optimism with him changing scenery: big10central.com/school/wisconsin/how-wisconsin-football-and-former-quarterback-graham-mertz-failed-each-other/article_c12bde9f-2e86-5bf1-9370-d04a2888c44a.html
Well, Cormani has shown himself to be indecisive and swayed by shiny objects, but that said, I think this is a good decision for him. And I would guess he is walking away from significant dollars in Miami, but who knows. He has length but needs to add bulk and by all accounts is raw in technique. He was rated more for raw ability. Working with Prime is a good learning choice.
I too was a fanatical Fins fan back in the 70s and 80s, being from Fort Lauderdale and living there after college. I still have yet to see a faster release than Marino's. Couldn't even tell you who's on their roster now, except for Tua. Or more then three or four guys, at most, on any other NFL roster.
For all we know, Napier heard about the deal the Clown Collective had made and said no way. But we don't know and we probably won't know. But what we do know: This isn't on Rashada, and it isn't on Napier.
The signed class to date ranks fifth in the country in average player rating. Mullen never got anywhere near that high.
Doering didn't blame the kid. He just said he's glad he's not getting $13 million before ever playing a down in orange and blue. I'm glad too. And I don't blame the kid either.
Now '73, don't go spelling words correctly on here.
So it seems. Don't believe Miller will necessarily acquiesce.
What The Athletic article said is that Rashada was sent a letter terminating the NIL offer. Glad it's over. Or hopefully over.
I think you are confusing CFP semi-final TV viewership with the Georgia fan base.
The only difference between Florida fans and fans at, say, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Missouri and South Carolina is higher expectations because of past program success, superior resources and superior structural advantages. There is a key aspect about that gets overlooked when the media discuss the alleged "impatience" of Florida fans with Muschamp, McElwain and Mullen: They didn't get better over time. They got worse. Really worse. None of those three were fired by the fans. They were fired by athletic directors who recognized uncorrectable flaws in game philosophy and hiring skill (Muschamp), large program management capability (McElwain), and personality (Mullen). Napier is doing it the right way.
LOL. Just to be clear, I think it's the number of seasons he's played college football, more so than his chronological age. He is short for a quarterback. And like Young, has a slight build. His arm strength seemed improved during 2021 but is still not great. Don't recall anyone ever saying he was "too slow." I will be surprised if he is drafted. I could see a team signing him as an UDFA. But then, I am on record saying repeatedly that Anthony Richardson will not be drafted and he may go in the first round; so what do I know?
P, don't be silly. Georgia is UF's primary rival, so of course I'm antagonistic. I'm not blind, though. I try to be as objective as I can. In fact, I wrote the other day that while Saban is still the Goat, Kirby is the best coach in the country right now. Georgia has one of the two best rosters in the country. Maybe the best. If I say it, I believe it. Yes, I thought 40 could be big for LSU in the SECCG. House didn't play young Harold the way I would have, so he wasn't put in a position often enough to do what I thought he could do. Even if Perkins had forced Bennett into multiple turnovers, Georgia still likely would have won the game. Yes, I've said Bennett benefited disproportionately from age and extra experience. How could he not? But that's just an opinion as to a major reason why he was good, not a claim that he was not good. And the word "only" is yours, not mine. I can say Ringo is stiff in man coverage and still think Georgia is the best team in the country. Both things can be true.
Michigan should have beaten TCU. I can't recall many games where one team had such a weird number of unlucky plays, incredibly bad officiating calls, etc. But even so, TCU was better than the NCG result. They still would have lost, but I believe that without the depth of a Georgia, Ohio State, or Alabama, TCU's starters were exhausted.
It will be tougher in their stadium but we should still have a size, speed and strength advantage. We shall see.
Yes. I wish all these kids well and hope they are able to get more playing time and enjoy the rest of their college careers. But it's hard not to notice that most of the moves are to the G5, PAC-12, etc.
Jeez, leave the guy (Saban) alone already. This is like the third or fourth article Hayes has written on the exact same topic. Saban is getting close to retirement. Georgia good. Got it. Move on.
Just horrible news. It's heartbreaking when this happens to young people who were just starting their lives out. Praying for full and speedy recovery for the survivors.
PETA has 9 million members. That's about 2.7% of the U.S. population.
