He should not have been mentioned in this article. While the overall article makes good points, seeing Carroll's name mentioned with back to backs is inaccurate and is the journalistic equivalent of fingernails on a chalkboard.
No argument, but I would go with Bennett being the most successful (Monday night depending). Maybe not the biggest numbers or greatest skill set. But hard to argue who's most successful.
And make that 13 SEC championships over the last 17 seasons with 5 different SEC teams taking the titles with no end in sight.
I'm actually with you there. While I predict and hope for an easy win, most would prefer high drama and a good underdog showing. All the SEC jealousy will be on TCUs side. My guess is that TCU is brought back down to earth by UGA in spades.
Absolutely. Michigan's arrogance and hubris was a significant factor in their loss. The early 4th down attempt was emblematic of believing that they had the game won before the opening kickoff. By the time Michigan figured out that they were in a real fight they were too far back to catch up. I can't imagine Kirby Smart letting that happen. After all, he's from the Nick Saban school. But it's going to take concentrated effort to keep those Dawgs from drinking that 13+ point line KoolAid.
First congrats to both teams for a great hard fought game, and to the Dawgs for being victorious in a most courageous manner. But agreed on all of the unpenalized OSU egregious holding throughout the game. Like another poster said, the amount and degree of unflagged holding was far more than the typical "holding could be called on any/every play mantra." Check out the replay - it's just blatant (PAC10 Refs), and surprisingly compare it to the TCU-UM game (SEC Refs) where it was arguably overcalled. Hopefully the championship game refs (ACC?) can center up somewhere in between these two extremes.
The writer also doesn't know the meaning of the word "slated" as in "Kentucky was slated to battle UGA for the SEC East." While UK was predicted by some in the pre-season to be competitive for the SEC East, they were never slated to do so.
This is pretty neat thought for all SEC teams (at a minimum) to honor the great man and coach that was the Pirate. He will be missed. A singularly unique individual.
"When you have the best team in college football, when you haven’t been tested all season, when you’ve won 31 of your past 32 games, you’re constantly searching for motivation." Agree for the most part; however, the not being tested all season belies UGAs weak efforts against Mizzou and UK. While winning, UGA wasn't "up." But no doubt against Oregon, Tennessee, and LSU, UGA was "up." So Smart is wise to use whatever bulletin board material he can find, manufacture, and pump up to get the Dawgs emotionally charged up. I would add this to it: to shut up the Big10 feeling all puffy for having two teams in the CFP. UGA should flatten them both to quell any Big10 is back talk. But I'm not feeling UGA coming out flat - they're used to this arena of play.
I think if UL was actually playing basketball this year then the UK bowl game would not have been selected to compete with it. But UL basketball is about as relevant as a badminton team, so I guess it doesn't matter.
I hate flopping with a passion, but this was was so ludicrous that I just had to bust out laughing.
I'm underwhelmed about UKs bowl but they earned it. This will be just quarter numbers 5-8 of last year's UK-Iowa Citrus Bowl snooze fest minus the final two minutes of the 4th quarter, but without many of the key players. Add to it, at the same time as kickoff will be tipoff of the UK-UL basketball game, where the sad Cards might be 0-13 by then. Meh.
Sure bet. This is quite likely the most unwatchable bowl game this year.
Wow. You're so sad that you double posted this. But I agree that no one that gets their P.E. after age 25 should be allowed to work as an engineer.
You should have used the sarcasm font to avoid looking small and petty.
Dr. Pepper blew it by not making that determination in real time after the OT shootout tie. Then the crowd would have been happy. Both large checks were already made out and standing by. The only thing lacking was a senior enough manager - or one with balls - on the deck to make that call.
Article is only click bait because: 1 - The Saban halo based on over a decade of top notch football. That halo is tarnished this year. A better speculation topic might be "is Saban's historic run at Alabama over? 2 - Rabid Alabama fans that are viewing the season through very well-earned crimson colored lenses, but earned by the past, not this season's results. This is not an insult, Bama, as a Wildcat I view all things hoops through blue tinted lenses for over 60 years. 3 - Bama outer ring fans and detractors/haters that can't help but see Bama in the CFP picture, even if it's just a mirage in 2022. Everyone is used to the long Crimson shadow that has been cast onto college football for over a decade. If a teams with Bama's record was named Kentucky, Purdue, or Oregon State, no one would even be asking the question of "why not." Tweak this question into the soup: Is UGA-Michigan the 2020's replacement for the 2010's Alabama-Clemson rivalry?
Of all the possible committee choices, going with the W-L record is the easiest to defend. Doesn't matter that all the 2 and 3 loss teams will argue otherwise - whoever gets left out always argues (and has a case). Agree that picking the top four allows less angst in the committee room and more time relaxing with a nice drink while the rest of the fan bases wring their hands. After 2024 this argument moves down from teams ranked 5 through 8 to teams ranked 13 through 20.
Exactly. Flag football or Arena Football - all flash and dash and cute outfits (looking at you Oregon), political correctness, wokeness, virtue signaling and no hard hitting contact. High scoring for the short attention span fan and porous defenses. The PAC12 would be crushed (again) by playing against a SEC defense.
Which they did. However, the committee either way has 'splainin to do, as Bama's two losses and overall strength of record is arguably (see that word?) a stronger performance than OSU's. What if Michigan loses to Purdue - does that matter? What if TCU also loses? Heads exploding all over the place.
An aspect of the article and most comments is which team can win most often given different types of games. Both teams can be overwhelmingly good when the game plays out best to their style of play and strengths. But I would argue that UGA has shown the ability to win regardless of the opponent's style of play (see Mizzou, UK) whereas LSU has appeared to have been exposed in 25% of their games. Can LSU beat UGA? You bet. But it will take everything that they've got from their down linemen - not sure that they've got enough ready backups to prevent the starting linemen from exhausting out playing at the level necessary to overpower UGA.
Heck yes. All of the expectations, hence the pressure, is on UGA. A very good and capable UGA team. But a UGA team that only beat UK 16-6, and was down by 10 points to Mizzou with 10 minutes left in the 4th quarter. LSU can play loose and all out and has shown both brilliant, inspired play and inexplicable dullness, and have the chance to win the SEC. Could be a great game. Or a blowout.
Whether or not anyone considers Freeze a good coach is and will always be tainted by his sordid past, regardless of one's moral views and personal behavior. That's just the way it is, even if you don't like it. As a result, Auburn will be viewed rightly or wrongly as trading character for hoped for wins. There other coaches viewed similarly that I'm sure Auburn fans can think of.
While the rest of the state is wiping their butts with leftover Loserville flags.
1. UGA 2. UM 3. USC 4. TCU UM gets boat raced by USC, and UGA has their hands full with a rejuvenated USC squad. TCU gets honorable mention.
Well, the Loserville dirty birds do have a reputation to uphold. A poor one. L's down.
