He landed in a very good situation. 3 good receivers (at least) and a good RB plus a very good franchise against a so-so division. I didn't watch him play much in college, but with his wheels and character, I'm not really surprised. My only question was his work ethic. Everything else would take care of itself if he had it. So many QBs end up on lousy teams with impatient fans.
Lawyers and money destroy everything. CFB is becoming a colossal bore. The rich get richer, just like in real life.
Yep, and he was trailing Saban nearly halfway through the 4th quarter of the game he did win last year. But yet, Smart owns Saban now. I remember last year, this site was saying GA couldn't compete with AL because of Stetson.
Who cares! Alabama CRUSHED KSU, who beat TCU. It's not a stretch at all.
Greatest timeout ever called? I highly doubt it. They had 12 men on the field. That automatically meant something was up if the GA assistants can count.
TCU lost their previous game to KSU. USC lost their last game to Utah thanks to an injury to their QB. This happens all the time in football since there are relatively few games. It's mostly luck ... every year, especially with all of the injuries. I think Alabama should have been in the playoffs this year and probably not other years. Same with GA.
Reminds me of Succop's blocked kick against the Gators in 2006 at the Swamp at the end of Spurrier's first game back. Succop is still playing on Sundays for the Bucs.
How was that not targeting? Any shred of credibility that the NCAA has left might have just gone out the window. They are now at the level of professional boxing and Don King. Were those SEC refs?
Most games are like that, then there is the Swindle in the Swamp. That game had some serious bowl money riding on it for FSU. The ACC refs came through in the clutch. I remember even the national announcers being shocked at the imbalance of calls.
I'm not commenting on this play, but there are so many marginal to dirty ones that never make headlines.
I don't know much about Leach but he certainly improved the WSU program. What says it all for me is that Spurrier Jr. followed him from WSU to MSU. SOS is easily my favorite coach ever, especially in terms of integrity.
College football is as political as ever. OOC schedules still don't mean squat.
You are clueless. This isn't college football anymore. So many players are even more grossly overpaid than the average lawyer in Lawyerland USA.
Rattler was overdue and UT's defense is statistically bad. Rather be lucky than good with the schedule since it often matters more when you play a team as opposed to who you play. As the prophet SOS once said, you can't spell "Citrus" without "UT."
I didn't watch the game, but wasn't Vandy playing with their backup QB?
This would be a quality SC team without any doubt with a decent OC. The talent is there on both sides of the ball and the ST are playing very well. With their current OC/general scheme, it's very hit or miss.
I really don't understand the Lane Kiffin hype. Look what he did at UT lol. So much style over substance in this country.
Spurrier was a pretty good recruiter. It became harder as he got older because retirement was inevitable and it was stupid for SC to not have a coach in waiting. Can anyone name another coach in college football history who had tougher instate competition than the U (national champs his last year at UF), FSU/Bowden and Clemson/Dabo? I don't even think it's close. What Saban's instate competition been? Gus Malzahn. ROTFL.
Bama could easily have 3 losses now. I wouldn't get too excited yet.
Harsin hasn't even been there for two years yet. I wish coaches would have 10% of the job security of so-called journalists who hate research.
Alabama was EXTREMELY lucky to win their game against the backup QB of Texas. The headline is a joke, right?
I'm not buying the hype. They beat an Oregon team that was likely overrated in their back against Bo Nix. And who says CFB is fixed? One or two key injuries and they likely won't be unbeatable, like Bama last year late.
If Richardson gets hurt, Spurrier becomes a co-OC on Saturdays.
The Swamp is still the Swamp. New coach, first game. Some great teams have struggled mightily there over the years. I was there for UM-UF 1986 with Vinny Testaverde and Michael Irvin. I think that team was upset by Penn State their last game. Vinny threw three picks and got lucky with a long TD to Irvin. Miami won by 8, but they were quite rattled.
I see UF pulling a very mild upset in the opener, especially since it's the first game for both teams.
Kentucky is a basketball school Now that Coach K is out at Duke, perhaps they will take it up a notch at Duke's expense. I think Stoops has done well, but he has been a little lucky too. Louisville has been a train wreck since Lamar Jackson left. He doesn't have the instate competition that other SEC schools have OOC.
Franklin had freakish luck at Vandy.
