Glen, I am sorry it wasn’t very clear in the recipe. Yes, the chicken broth is used in the slow cooker version to help keep the chicken moist when cooking. It isn’t really needed for the stovetop version since the chicken cooks faster. I am sure it did add a lot of flavor by taking the time to reduce it. I am glad it worked out for you.

I ended up with 1/2 cup of chicken broth not being used. I reviewed the recipe and realised that the stove-top version does not include the chicken stock.
Is this on purpose, or just an oversight?
In my case I added it but found the mixture very watery so cooked it uncovered about 20 minutes to reduce it. Very delicious.
