CBS reveals huge ratings numbers for SEC Championship Game

Alabama and Georgia, it’s the matchup the people want.

In 2018, the Bulldogs met the Crimson Tide in Atlanta for the SEC Championship Game—which the Tide took 35-28. They met again this past weekend for the title, and CBS says it was the most-watched conference championship game since 2018.

Viewership, according to a release from CBS Sports, peaked at 17.9 million viewers. Average viewership for the game was up more than 70%.

With championship weekend now over and college football moving into bowl season, the CBS college football season is largely over (it’ll broadcast the Washington State-Miami bowl game on New Year’s Eve). Viewership, according to the network, led all major networks with an average of 5.2 million viewers per game this season.

CBS will be the broadcast home for the SEC and the SEC Championship Game for 2 more seasons before the league’s media rights deal moves games exclusively to Disney-owned properties on ESPN and ABC for 2024.

  • CBS is enjoyable because they don't force a woke narrative down your throat at every turn like LIBSPN does.

      • I'm not. I just don't want politics mixed in with my sports viewing, which is all that they do. If you watched the Uf-FSU game, it was nothing but how UF needed to hire a minority HC for three hours. Vomit inducing.

        • That's all you gathered from that game because for whatever reason it bothered you. I watched the game and don't even remember them saying that.

  • Ironic that a SEC Championship that turned into a rout turned out to have more views than the instant down to the wire classic between Florida and Alabama last year. The media has been trying to hype up the rivalry between Bama and UGA so much even though in reality Florida and Bama has been a far more intense and entertaining rivalry recently.

    • Ironic that you refer to eight straight loses as an intense rivalry. However, you do hold the more recent win over Alabama than Georgia does. Y'all won as recently as 2008.

      • There is no rivalry between Bama and Florida....

Negan2.0 just loves to brag about close losses.... That’s what fans of 6 loss teams do.

  • 15 million people watched Saban yank Kirby’s pants down, spank him and send him to his room without dinner. Oh, the pain! The pain!
