Let CNS do what he does best. All will be fine.
I think you are absolutely correct. I'm not a fan of it either. Allowing tx and ou into the league still doesn't sit well with me. LSU is the biggest threat in the West. Kelly is a great coach and has an outstanding process by all accounts. He's recruiting the players to fit his style and has an increased athleticism versus his squads at ND. A&M has a good coach who had grown stubborn and it backfired. He corrected that by getting a proven offensive mind. Yeah yeah, he's "offensive" alright, but the man can coach football. With all of that said, I still think A&M is at least a year out from being a big threat assuming the Petrino experiment works out. Regardless, the talent assembled at both LSU and A&M is extremely impressive.
I'll have to disagree. The big knock on Jimbo has been his anemic offense. He went out and picked an OC that can sure nuff coach offense despite his own personal shortcomings. Granted it may all blow up on A&M, but they have a decent defense and plenty of talent. Petrino will set them on fire one way or the other.
Indeed. Bama's dominance forced everyone else to elevate themselves. While no dynasty lasts forever, Bama isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
Gonna be hard to replace Will if he declares. Thanks, Will! I've sure enjoyed watching you play for the Tide!
Exactly. The Ags I work with say they haven't heard BP be mentioned before but indeed Mullen is being mentioned and the word is Jimbo will be giving up playcalling to the right OC hire. However, he still prefers the OC to run a pro-style offense. The use of a FB during the LSU game was the result of advice received. It sure was effective against LSU. Dan Mullen or BP running the offense with that talent is a concern.
Well, it was their bowl game for the year. Let 'em have some fun!
LSU/A&M is quickly becoming a great rivalry. Nice win, Aggies.
Exactly. I think the big question is does Jimbo swallow his pride and get an OC or will he even be on the sidelines next year? A&M has a locker room full of talent. It wouldn't surprise me if Dan Mullen was on the sideline next year as the OC. Two really big egos, but if they can coexist Mullen would be an immediate impact in play calling. If A&M does part ways with Jimbo, I think some really big names will take an offer very seriously. Top facilities, NIL, and a program that is willing to spend the money to get to the top. If I was a top tier coach, I'd have to seriously consider the job. The next question is who is targeted after Jimbo?
Rece Davis and all the other talking heads constantly decry the coaches for most of the season and then act appalled when he is fired. Former players and coaches for the most part instead take the approach of give the guy a chance. Let him build a program and find the right staff to implement his plan.
And that's the weird part of this year with A&M. Since coming into the league, they typically have had a great to really good Oline and a couple of really good backs on rotation with another one waiting his turn. Most of A&M's problem is terrible OLine play. No time for the QB to progress through reads and no holes for the back to get through. What little of the game I saw, Achane was being met in the backfield. I think A&M gives Jimbo 2 more years and then they start looking for another coach if they don't get a 10 win season. And I don't see them winning maybe 2 more games this year.
I went back and watched that play several times. The WR didn't do his job. It was a comeback route that he never pushed deep enough or really came back to catch. King put in a decent spot for a comeback route to the corner. Still not the play I would have called with Achane in the backfield, but I do understand the call and what happened during the play. Mike Evans at Tampa Bay is a master at that play call. I don't remember him doing it much at A&M with Manziel unless it was a comeback with Manziel scrambling.
I really thought we were going to see speed option to the wide side. I was just hoping Will could string it out and make the play.
I thought King played decent. He missed some easy passes but delivered the ball well others. Kid is fast but not really elusive. The Stewart kid is the real deal.
I swore we were about to see an option play with King and Achane. Blew my mind when he tried that pass. I was just hoping the linebackers could string it out at the goal line. Crazy.
Hats off to A&M. Heck of a game. Bama has lots to clean up before next week. Defense played well, offense sputters without Bryce. Too many turnovers for sure. Either way, a win is a win.
Please do. I'm sure he'd enjoy the advice from the peanut gallery. hahahaha I apologize for stating the obvious. CNS has it under control.
Just run the ball and let Milroe get comfortable. A&M is giving up 170 a game in rushing. Run the ball and control the clock. When they start loading the box, hit the easy passes.
I'm not sure why they haven't gone run heavy. They have a great back and 2 highly regarded recruits behind Achane. They can't pass block to save themselves so simplify the Oline scheme and run the ball. It's worked for Ole Miss.
I watched the presser. Jimbo won't change. Adaptability is key in these situations and Jimbo refuses to adapt.
Bama is the #1 in the league. Georgia drops a spot due to struggling twice against someone they should have easily handled. UT is nipping on their heels. The UT-Georgia game is the game I'm most looking forward to at this point in the season. Ole Miss is 4 but has a lot of work to do. Their flaws play against the strengths of a couple of teams left on the schedule. I think LSU will rise over next few weeks and be in the race for 2nd or 3rd in the West. Kentucky will bounce back. The rest is a guess at this point in the season. They have all had their moments of looking improved and have all fallen flat on the faces at others.
#2 all time sacks now. If he stays 4 years I think he has a chance of getting close to Thomas.
Recorded the game and started watching it midway through the Bama 4th quarter. The updates were decent on SEC network, but it's always better to watch. Nice win, A&M. Achane is an amazing talent. Defense was playing great after a few hitches during the 1st quarter, but after that the defense cleaned up the safety reads and the LBs keep KJ in check for the most part. As much as some people will hate to hear this... Johnson played well and managed the game. He's going to keep getting better. The throw to 7 should have been caught and the kid probably sprints to the end zone. I thought Jimbo had abandoned the TE position, but the TE showed up today. Losing Smith is going to be difficult to overcome. I think the calls for the death of the program may be a little too soon. A&M is getting a little better each week. By the end of the season, they will be a tough out. Arkansas is a really good team. A&M beat a dynamic QB supported by a great ground game. Arkansas made mistakes and A&M capitalized on them. A&M made some mistakes and figured out a way to overcome them. It was a very entertaining game.
Beamer did well in the portal. I think that this strategy is his best chance to stack some depth right now and add a few playmakers. Another good year picking up players and he can get the program going in the right direction. He seems to be a good coach and is loved by his teams. He just needs some patience to build.
If they really wanted to make a splash, they should go after Gary Patterson now. I figure when Auburn fires Harsin that's who they will go after. He is too good of a coach to stay as an advisor/special assistant at Texas. Nebraska may already be calling Patterson.
Uh, no. The Big(whatever the current number) would snap A&M up quicker than you can blink. I'd rather them be in the SEC than see them grow even more massive in the Big21/22. AAU universities with large athletic budgets are hard to come by. A&M has given the SEC a massive footprint in viewership in Texas. So, no thanks. I'd rather stick with the devil I know instead of the devil I don't know.
