Arkansas 'working fast' to finalize a deal with next offensive coordinator, per report
Arkansas is “working fast” to finalize a deal with Kendal Briles’ replacement, according to a report.
That’s per ESPN’s Chris Low, who says the Razorbacks are close to naming Dan Enos as their next offensive coordinator. Enos has spent the past 2 seasons at Maryland.
Sam Pittman is working fast to replace Kendal Briles as @RazorbackFB’s OC. The Hogs are finalizing a deal with Dan Enos, sources tell ESPN. An announcement could come Thursday. Enos has been at @TerpsFootball last two seasons and had a big role in Taulia Tagovailoa’s development.

Arkansas fans will remember Enos from his 1st stint in Fayetteville. He was Arkansas’ offensive coordinator from 2015-17 under head coach Bret Bielema. He’s since worked at Michigan, Alabama, Miami, Cincinnati and Maryland in a variety of roles.
Enos’ first stint with the Hogs produced a pair of bowl appearances in 3 seasons. In 2015, his 1st year on the job, the Razorbacks finished No. 2 in the SEC with 6.83 yards per play.
It’s been a busy offseason for head coach Sam Pittman, who also had to replace defensive coordinator Barry Odom. He left back in December to take the UNLV head coaching job.
An official announcement on Enos could come as early as Thursday, per Low’s report.
Who’s going to be the new DC?
We got one a few weeks ago. His name escapes me but he was from the AAC.
Travis Williams.
Interesting move by Kendal Briles, considering Jefferson is returning. I know TCU is an easier gig than any place in SEC West, but why run from competition?
What say you, hog fans, why did Briles leave after turning down other opportunities last year? Outside looking in, I’d say Sam Pittman would be an awesome guy to work for as a coach.
MSU offered Briles a job earlier this month and our AD renegotiated his contract and Briles indicated he was happy and looking forward to the season. Then Briles or his agent sought out the TCU job and our AD told him to hit the road if he wasn’t happy here. I suspect he didn’t get a pay raise going to TCU and he ends up with a “backward lateral “ job! Have fun with Chandler Morris!
Jefferson is returning…but where. This free agency is crazy and TCU is in need of a QB. Anyone can take a stab at why Briles left. Home state or whatever. But clearly the competition is softer in the Big 12 and it will only get easier in 2024.TCU was in the CFP championship game…but “playing” in the game is a matter of interpretation after a total shellacking. And their conference champ fared somewhat better but still got wacked. Turning down State, then getting out of the SEC seems logical even if it’s not his stated reasons.
This was my best assumption.
Briles left, I assume, to go back home and to coach an offense that played for a natty. Enos is a terrible hire. He’s not a good OC. Pittman just signed his own death warrant.
Pittman is in trouble. Year 4 should not be a rebuilding year. After countless players and staff leaving, next season looks rough.
The offense on paper looks to be a juggernaut but the defense is suspect. Pittman got rid of the strength coach who apparently was critical of some things and that caused dissension. He also got rid of some players who thought they should be playing but weren’t good enough.
Free agency will hit a lot of schools and it will get worse. California just introduced a bill that schools will split 50-50 net revenues with players in football, men’s and women’s BB and athletes will become employees of schools.(player’s union next?)If they do, how will other states react. Money talks. Will other states even have a choice. And they say there is a good chance it passes unlike previous bills.
Enos put up 36 PPG in 2015, 30 in 2016, and had his 2017 year wrecked by Austin and Jared Cornelius’ injuries. He’s a fine OC.
He never won more than 8 games as OC at Arkansas. Good Luck!
I forgot he coached defense and special teams too. You need to find a job aside from bashing Arkansas on a website. Why do you hate Arkansas so much, anyway? Gonzaga fan?
@Dale, I’m born and raised in Arkansas and the Hogs are overrated and overhyped every single year. Other than the Petrino era they’re a mediocre team at best. Always have been and always will be. The worst part, THE FANS!!! Delusional, ignorant and always crying about something. Arkansas has been in the SEC for 32 seasons and out of those 32 only 12 of those are 8+ win seasons. I could do this all day but I have better things to do. OH! and I live in this state and have to hear this Razorback garbage on the regular so I can say anything I want!! The Hogs just Aren’t good!
Wasn’t Enos the Arky OC a few years ago when they weren’t so good?
He was the OC when Arkansas peaked with Bret. He is an excellent QB coach and a solid OC. I expected KJ to excel under his leadership
*I expect KJ to excel. Autocorrect strikes again
IIRC that offense was also notorious for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Too many games we would get a nice lead then start playing conservative and going 3 and out. I don’t know if it was Bert or Dan calling the shots.
Mixed emotions about Enos. Excellent quarterback coach and a smart dude. Little concerned about his style of play and how it will impact recruiting class.
