Former Texas A&M defensive lineman Anthony Lucas is heading back to the west coast.

Lucas announced Wednesday that he would be transferring to USC for the 2023 season. Lucas spent 1 year in College Station before electing to enter the transfer portal.

A former 5-star prospect from Scottsdale, Ariz., Lucas played in 7 games for the Aggies this past fall. He recorded  10 tackles, 1 tackle for loss and 1 QBH in a limited role for Jimbo Fisher’s defensive front.

Lucas chose the Aggies over many top Power 5 programs, including Alabama, Miami, Notre Dame and Oregon. He was also listed as 247Sports’ No. 10 defensive linemen prospect and the top prospect in the state of Arizona for  the 2022 cycle.

Lucas was one of 4 players suspended following Texas A&M’s road loss against South Carolina due to a locker room incident.  Since the suspension, cornerback Denver Harris (LSU), wide receiver Chris Marshall (Ole Miss) and offensive lineman PJ Williams have all left the program.

Lucas is expected to be a significant contributor for the Trojans for the 2023 season. Last year, USC finished 11-3, but struggled to create pressure on the defensive line. The Trojans allowed opponents to average 4.98 yards per run, 117th-most nationally.

The transfer portal window closes on Jan. 18. Texas A&M has over 25 players currently in the portal, the most of any SEC team.
