And what happens when the next coach sucks too? Tennessee fans can tell you how messy it can get when you stack a few big contracts on top of each other. Took them a while to get out of it.
I think Pittman would be fired if they went 4-8. That's the only other scenario I could fathom. Though, I expect Arkansas won't have that problem next year.
Dart benefited from a great run game and O-line that will be returning next year. He will need to make year 2 progression under Kiffin like Corral did if he wants to start again (and I hope he does). Otherwise I think Sanders will know how to win with that run game, o-line, and incoming wide outs.
Bro just FYI I don't think many people read posts that are this long. I'm sure it has some good content though.
I think Walker is a perfect fit and he's definitely good enough to push Dart for the starting spot in 2023. I anticipate Dart starting and having a much improved year, but competition is a good thing.
Bama fans are acting like he was awful. Bama had the 9th ranked scoring defense last year under Golding. He was the #3 ranked recruiter. Nick Saban submitted him for the Broyles award. And Bama offered him a raise to counter OleMiss. Could Bama have offered more than OleMiss? Yes, obviously. But OleMiss clearly offered something he liked (maybe being #2 in command behind Kiffin?). He may not have been Bama's best DC. But he surely wasn't a bad one like Bama fans like to suddenly claim. I think, in a way, it's valid for both fan bases to be happy about it.
I sure hope so... Whatever "analytics" he has been using needs to be updated with correct data.
The O-line should be stout again which will bode well for a YUGGEEEE season from Judkins.
I trust Kiffin and his process. That being said, he definitely missed on some big names on signing day. Specifically 2 of the 4 star commits that flipped. However, it each year our "blue chip" percentage has increased under Kiffin and right now we are on track to do that again which is what really matters in the long run.
I think he has a chance to start later in the season if Dart doesn't improve. That being said, we all know how much Matt Corral improved in year 2 under Kiffin. Either way Walker will most likely end up being a starter at OleMiss due to his remaining eligibility.
Worst OleMiss bowl game I've seen in my 31 years of life. O-line sucked. Defense sucked. Dart was off. Childish play calling. AND the most lopsided refereeing I've ever seen. Not to mention ESPN's Andre Ware being blatantly bias as well. But hey, good thing Kiffin is the 7th highest paid coach now!
He has a special relationship with Kiffin. Once Kiffin decided to stay, we knew Judkins would too. He was going to get a bag either way.
OleMiss would have already made the playoff 3 times since 2014. This may give some coaches like Kiffin a recruiting point that has previously been reserved to about 6 teams in college football.
It's still a law. 4 years of the contract is covered but public school funds, the other 2 years are being covered by a private fund (i.e. an alumni organization of sorts).
Seems like a good kid. Surprised it didn't work out. I'm sure he will get more playing time somewhere else, we wish the best for him!
Almost to Atlanta would have been accurate, not the playoffs. In 2015 we were a 4th and 25 backwards-fumbled-scramble to the end zone in overtime against Arkansas away from going to Atlanta.
Lol trailer park Ron spends so much time on OleMiss articles, you can tell the Rebs got under his skin. He probably didn’t leave his room for days after OleMiss beat them by 2 TDs earlier this season.
How is it not? Just a week ago you were wanting him in Auburn. He decided to stay in Oxford. We are excited to build a legacy with him in Oxford for many seasons to come. Good luck in your bowl game.
I don’t like how it was handled but the rumors did force the fanbase to rase $10mil in a month. This was always meant to be a rebuilding year with 30+ transfers coming in. I like how we are positioned for recruiting and next year.
What was reported is that discussions with Kiffin didn’t pan out. Kiffin clearly had a top 7 offer in hand at a school that he is already implementing his vision and has plenty of job security. Auburn can get Freeze at a discount which is probably good for a team who is still paying off 2 former coaches.
Agreed. Assuming KJ returns for Arky and A&M doesn’t deal with mass exodus, pre-season SEC west rankings next season will be difficult. Not that it matters, but pre-season expectations could be strong for pretty much every program.
I honestly new disdain for Auburn after all the high horse / misplaced sense of superiority over the last few weeks with the Kiffin drama. BUT, Cadillac comes across as a great guy and will be a great coach somewhere one day, even if Auburn doesn’t see it now.
I think it was pretty clear that Auburn was very interested in Kiffin. But you’re right, Kiffin may have wanted to stay in Oxford all along, the drama resulted in us raising $10mil over 2 months for NIL and him becoming the 6th or 7th highest paid coach. Bottom line, Auburn isn’t the top tier coaching destination that they think they are.
This actually worked out really well. Once we lost to Bama, NY6 was out of the picture. This was meant to be a rebuilding year with 30+ new transfers. I hate that we lost the egg bowl, State played a great game, but now Kiffin is locked into a top 7 contract and our NIL value skyrocketed. OleMiss fans and boosters proved we can *compete* with the top tier of programs financially. I’m excited to see what Kiffin can do.
This is a HUGE win for OleMiss. Kiffin chose to stay in Oxford and implement his vision. OleMiss dished out the cash to ensure we can be competitive going forward. Would he still bounce to Bama in the future, sure, Bama is on a different level than Auburn. This contract shows that OleMiss can offer top 10 money and top 10 NIL.
Since the playoff era, Auburn has been to 2 NY6 games. OleMiss has been to 3. The difference in competitiveness is also negligible.
I read Auburn has roughly 13mil ready to spend. I’m sure I’ll be corrected by an Aub but to me that’s a negligible difference.
Ya but at least recognize that Kiffin has applauded the same audience in the same season for hitting 100% capacity every game since. Even Nick Saban complained about a hot September game crowd 2 years ago… the media is just nit picking OleMiss. It’s a hit job.
