It's one game. Talk about a massive over-reaction.
In the time before Charles.....(dare we call it "b.c.") Auburn was terrible. Barkley's first year (1981-1982) was hardly anything memorable. Personally I was surprised he didn't say Godfather's pizza as a reason given how many he ate. There was a reason he was called the round mound of rebound.
Like I said...I thought the two best QB's by far in 2022, were Stetson Bennett and Bryce Young. Bennett did as he's done for the past two years....kept his mouth shut and let his leadership and play do all the "talking" that needed to be done.
Or....that UGA was simply that much better than the other teams in the playoffs.
No "system" will make everyone "happy". In the old days for the most part it was obvious who the best team was at the end of the year whether it be the "bowl system" or the "BCS". There was no doubt that UGA was the best team in the country this year so the playoffs didn't really "settle" anything other than to prove that UGA could play its worst game in years and beat Ohio St. and it's best game in a decade and crush TCU.
If I'm an NFL GM I want to look really closely at Bennett. He's a winner....pure and simple.
While I don't like the idea of the 12 team playoff as I think it extends the season far too long for college kids, I think in the end you're right. If the other conferences are already upset about SEC dominance, wait till a few more SEC teams get into the playoffs and you've got SEC on SEC for the semi-finals and finals year in and year out. I guess then they'll want to go back to the old bowl system prior to the BCS.
You look at just about any team that wins a National championship and you're going to see at least one and often more games where they've got to survive a team that they may be clearly more talented than, but who "on the day" just gives that team all they want and a lot more. Like Mizzou and UK did with UGA this year in the regular season and OSU did in the playoff.
Funny thing about Dykes's comments was I haven't noticed him chomping at the bit to get upper tier SEC schools on TCU's schedule.
UGA sleep walked through the Ohio St. game and had to "win the 4th quarter" as Smart tells them to survive. Unfortunately for TCU....they were fully awakened and motivated for TCU.
Yeah....it was a close game.....all the way to the opening kickoff. Then UGA opened up a warehouse full of ass kicking execution that overwhelmed TCU. If you're Oregon you've got to feel better now about that 40+ point beating they took last September.
Gotta have the coaching. Kirby Smart has done a fantastic job building UGA into a juggernaut.
I thought the two best QB's in college football in 2022, were Stetson Bennet and Bryce Young. Both can will their teams to victory. Bennet sure did that against Ohio St. and against TCU.....they just ran into a nuclear powered buzzsaw.
Been a roller coaster ride at LSU to be sure since 2019, but I think they're on the right track know with Brian Kelly at the helm.
Now that Cotton Bowl win by Tulane was a very satisfying bowl game.......especially after all the hype we heard about USC from the media.
Folks forget that LSU put up 500 yards of passing on UGA and never gave up in that game. Brian Kelly has done a tremendous job in Baton Rouge this year. The future sure looks bright for LSU.
Absolutely!! Gotta feel great about MSU winning one for the Pirate.
Freeze and the coaches have definitely hit the transfer portal hard. Right now AU's "recruiting class" is ranked 16th, which is a vast improvement over where things were just a few months ago. Now.....if the "powers that be" will just stay out of things.
Ah......the old tried and true "everyone's wrong but me" and "why is everyone's so mean to me". You sound like one of those "sensitive" and "misunderstood" fellas. Poor baby.
Auburn is in a massive rebuild mode after having lost two seasons under Brian Harsin. While I don't think Auburn could've beaten UGA in 2022, I do think had they played in mid November with Cadillac Williams as head coach Auburn would've given UGA a real fight as Cadillac Williams did an incredible job in turning around a team and inspiring them to "believe and serve".
Alabama was 10-2 and without Bryce Young's heroics could've easily been 6-6. They barely survived and 8-5 Texas with the refs help and until the bowl game didn't beat a team with a better record than 8-4. Neither USC, nor Alabama nor Utah deserved to get in. Alabama had a great bowl win against K-State, but Alabama matched really well with K-State who had a lot of injuries along both lines of scrimmage.
UGA did a great job in hiring Kirby Smart and being patient while he built his program's culture and stocked that program with talent. Now....they're reaping the rewards of that patience and Smart's hard work.
One of the great differences in Alabama now as opposed to 7-10 years ago is that in "those days" Alabama beat teams into submission with a powerful ground game and a dominant defense, which quite frankly intimidated a lot of teams. Today...Alabama outscores people with tremendous skill play at WR and QB. When the WR's weren't the quality of recent years and the O-Line is not the dominant road grading group they have been in the past, and the defense isn't the dominant force of the past....folks aren't so intimidated. Still any program that wins 11 games a season every year since 2010 is hardly a "down program".
Any team that has a special season like UT did in 2022, has to dodge a couple land mines along the way. That's football.
Agreed. Kelly did a great job with LSU this year. Those kids played hard every game and even though out-manned against UGA still fought hard to the end putting up over 500 yards of passing on a very stout UGA defense.
Lane Kiffin's "antics" were a disgrace as was his team's performance against Texas Tech. All Lane did was make a lot of folks at Auburn breathe a sigh of relief that they didn't hire him and folks at Ole Miss wonder what they'd gotten themselves into. Florida is a couple years away from being rebuilt and needs to show patience.
