Stetson Bennett arrested for public intoxication in Dallas, per report

Stetson Bennett’s Sunday morning reportedly got off to a rough start. Bennett was arrested for public intoxication around 6 a.m. CT, according to a report from WFAA in Dallas, Texas.

Details about the situation are currently limited. According to WFAA, the arrest occurred in the 1600 block of Tribeca Way in Old East Dallas. Officers were responding to “reports of a man banging on doors in the area,” per WFAA.

When the officers arrived, they found Bennett “and determined he was intoxicated,” a police news release said.

The release did not say if Bennett was the man reportedly banging on doors, and it did not say where, specifically, they located him.

Bennett was arrested by officers and then taken to a city detention center, per WFAA, which did not have any further information on his release.

Bennett, 25, finished his legendary Georgia career by leading UGA to a 65-7 win over TCU for back-to-back national titles. He was recently named winner of the Manning Award, the only QB award that factors in postseason performances. In 3 postseason performances, Bennett was 64-of-88 passing (72.8% complete) for 976 yards and 11 touchdowns in UGA’s wins over LSU, Ohio State and TCU to complete the 15-0 season.

      • As a fan of another school, I think this is a nothing burger. He's 25 and just led his team to back-to-back Natties. I hate to think how I might have acted in that situation when I was his age. As I understand it, he wasn't driving and no one got hurt. Live and let live.

  • That’s no big deal. Everyone at a bar is in public and intoxicated. Headline should read “ guy goes out drinking with friends and gets arrested for drinking, which is legal”.

    • Take it to the bank, '94. Dallas has a good police force, which I can attest to, but this was at the discretion of the arresting officers. Other than that, a non-story that gets blown out of proportion.
