Mizzou adds transfer commitment from MAC lineman

Eli Drinkwitz and his staff have gone into the NCAA transfer portal to get some help up front. Mizzou landed a commitment from Eastern Michigan transfer offensive lineman Marcellus Johnson on Sunday.

Johnson shared the big news on social media.

Johnson spent the last 5 seasons at Eastern Michigan. He redshirted in 2018 and then played in 44 games over the next 4 seasons. The NCAA’s COVID-19 waiver for the 2020 season allows Johnson to return in 2023 for a sixth season, which he will use at Mizzou.

A graduate transfer, Johnson was recognized as a standout performer in 2022. Pro Football Network named Johnson to its All-MAC team, recognizing him as the conference’s Offensive Lineman of the Year. Johnson also received interest from Auburn, Illinois and Cal.

  • Never can have too many linemen, depth is usually necessary as the season goes on. Glad to have him.

    • Probably full up on O line schollies now. If Foster and Delgado are returning for a final year, Polgar should be onboard this year, we still have Tolison Membou and Richert who likely is a first year ready guy. With Ogar mending Mizzou has the ability to have a really decent O line, we now need the 5* QB and RB to complete the picture.

  • Checks all the boxes:
    Good for him
    Good for Mizzou
    Ups his stock next year
    Creates a leadership for him
Fills a leadership position for Mizzou
Etc, etc etc. I’ll be surprised if this is not a difference making handshake

    • The Oline has “leadership” if Foster and DelGado are back for a final year. I like that Johnson has good experience, always a bonus, but it’s not like this team has some talent already. The O line was used as an excuse for an underperforming QB far too much.
