Kendal Briles expected to leave Arkansas for another program, per report
Kendal Briles has been the offensive coordinator at Arkansas since 2020, when Sam Pittman took over as the head of the Hogs.
The Razorbacks lost DC Barry Odom to the UNLV head coaching job earlier this offseason and now it appears Pittman might have another coordinator position to fill.
Per FootballScoop, Briles, a Texas native, is expected to be hired as Sonny Dykes’ new offensive coordinator at TCU, replacing Garrett Riley:
Sources tell FootballScoop that Sonny Dykes and the Horned Frogs believe a deal will be reached to hire Texas native and top young offensive coordinator Kendal Briles away from the Arkansas Razorbacks, barring any unforeseen snags.
Riley left for Clemson this offseason. TCU made it to the College Football Playoff in 2022 and beat Michigan to advance to the title game before losing to Georgia in blowout fashion.
Prior to his time in Arkansas, Briles was the offensive coordinator at Florida State (2019), Houston (2018), Florida Atlantic (2017) and Baylor (2015-16).
I’ve had mixed thoughts about Briles. I won’t be too sad to see him leave. I’d like to see Pittman bring Dan Enos back. He’s likely the best Qb coach we’ve had in a long time and his play calling didn’t leave us scratching our heads.
I’m a little tired of us outsmarting ourselves on offense and a Lot tired of trying to keep up with a guy that acts like a serial adulterer (read that job-hopper).
I am also for running the kind of offense that we have historically been able to get the players to run- pin your ears back and run over them and if that doesn’t work then break their knuckles on your face.
Hope KJ stays now. I assume he was excited to learn that Kendal was going to “run it back”, but now that that has been proven untrue, would KJ follow Briles? I trust KJ’s loyalty more than anyone else on the team but then again I trusted Briles when he said that he was gonna stay too. Oh well.
Watch him take KJ and y’all’s running back.
I would hate to see Briles leave, especially given the KJ situation.
If true, Barry Lunney would make for a viable OC, imo.
As a former Razorback coach and quarterback, he should be able to “coach up” the position and recruit well.
If I’m being 100% honest whether he goes or stays I bet secretly he will be thrilled when he no longer has to try and call plays for KJ.
The strange calls are from the head coach KB is looking for place where he has total control of the offense
Wrong. Briles called plays all season.
I think briles is a pretty darn good OC. Not sure about his prowess as a QB coach. be careful what you wish for. I have a lot of experience in disappointment, as a fan, by new coaches… its not always Mai Tais and yahtzee.
Hard to see how TCU is a better job than Arkansas… TCU had every ball bounce their way on the way to the national championship game, but then got exposed with that horrific beatdown. TCU = meh
The reasoning is this – He doesn’t believe his offense will be as good or better next year. He has build his resume. He has been an OC in the SEC, has produced consecutive efficient QBs, and his offense has improved each year. He thinks he has to leave while he’s at the top, before anything brings him down. Even though it’s Big12, he sees a chance to add another good year to his resume and to get more recognition, which he hopes will lead to a decent HC job in short order. It’s the resume move.
Makes sense- thank you!
I would kind of like to see him at Bama. Maybe Nick can open the checkbook and make him an offer he can’t refuse.
Going to be Dan Enos.
Just saw an ESPN story that says Briles has agreed to jump to TCU and a softer conference while Arkansas is finalizing a deal to hire Dan Enos from Maryland. I would guess the real back story is will Jefferson stick with the Hogs or will that softer schedule in the Big 12 be the key to pump up numbers. I think if this had been a couple years from now it might look tasty with replacements like UCF and Cincinnati and Houston replacing the heavyweights. Yes, Okie and Texas are still the heavyweights in spite of last years results. The replacements still to me look like a bigger version of the Mountain West. UCF and Cincy were suppose to be the big gets but they have lost a lot of shine recently. The two big 12 championship participants got plastered in the post season. Says it all about what it will look like when you champ is beaten 65-7. I blame Michigan for that game.
TCU is a huge step up for Briles. He will have the athletes to be successful. Pittman showing his inexperience hiring Enos. After several players and staff leaving, next season looks rough. Year 4 isn’t supposed to be a rebuilding year.
Man you just continue to show your lack of football knowledge. Just give it up already.
