South Carolina football team to be recognized at upcoming Gamecocks basketball game

After another winning season, the South Carolina football team will be recognized at an upcoming Gamecocks basketball game.

The football team will be on hand for the basketball game on Jan. 21 vs. Auburn, with head coach Shame Beamer addressing the crowd, according to the program website.

No. 19 South Carolina capped off the season with an 8-5 marl after a 45-38 defeat to No. 21 Notre Dame in the Gator Bowl on Dec. 30. However, it was a strong close to the season for a South Carolina team that earned top 10 wins vs. Tennessee and in-state rival Clemson.

In his 2 seasons as the head coach for South Carolina, the 45-year-old Beamer has compiled a 15-11 record. Despite that, Beamer’s salary ranks 9th amongst the 14 SEC head coaches, according to The Post and Courier.

The South Carolina basketball team has an 8-8 record after defeating host Kentucky 71-68 on Tuesday. South Carolina vs. Auburn is slated for a 3:30 p.m. ET tipoff and will be televised on the SEC Network.

    • I think the team is simply being recognized. the writer shared his own tidbit of viewed accomplishments by the team potentially leading to the scheduled event.

above said, you and i both know that those two victories will be one of the focal points in recognizing the team.

      • fuzzy is a Vol fan...We must begin to disregard anything they post. They have sunk now to the depths of Mizzou fans; all delusional and without a concept of the word "Reality". They only criticize all other SEC teams. They should be happy that their team actually had a good year in 2022. But somehow they cannot even enjoy their own team's success. But fuzzy; Who won the Vols vs. Gamecocks game ? Your guys got curb-stomped ! Eye roll follows.

  • Okay, let's set the town on fire for 8-5....not sure where the #19 ranking came from, but hey make it up if you have to.

    • This recognition happens every year despite their record. It’s usually a recruiting weekend where all of the players and recruits go. Clowney was at the game as a recruit when they did this, and the whole stadium chanted, “We want Clowney.”

They also introduce the early enrollees. So it serves a purpose as a recruiting tool and letting the players have fun more so than celebrating accomplishments.

  • Salary ranks 9th despite a 15-11 record? That’s an odd assessment. His raise is fair (if not generous) for that record.

  • The event is more of a recruiting tool. It is always fun to attend - hopefully we will have some Championship celebrations to attend.

    GO COCKS
