Err Georgia romped LSU in the SEC Championship (had started another thought but didn't)
Give it up Bama fans. TCU deserved to be there. They were the best in their conference and only had one loss. They beat Michigan who BEAT tOSU. Ohio State almost beat UGA. I'd bet that if UGA had played Michigan in the semi's and OSU had played TCU, then TCU would have kept it close vs Ohio State, but lost and Georgia would have had their way with Michigan. Then the Championship game is a coin toss, or probably a loss for UGA. It isn't that OSU was that much better than TCU, it is the Ohio State game that allowed Kirby to get the Dawgs centered and focused. You can argue that Georgia really only showed up twice this season--first vs Oregon and second vs Tennessee--before the championship game. They are good and they knew that they had better talent, coaching, scheme, depth, everything to beat whoever is on the field just by showing up in the 4th quarter. Bama romped LSU in the SEC Championship so the "defensive secondary issues" were excused. Besides, they dominated Tennessee and their elite passing offense, so there was no issue there right? Ohio State showed UGA that there are some weaknesses and they must execute on all levels or they could take a loss. Kirby took that and the message all week was "We have to be better. It takes all of us to be our best to be better." TCU came to the game somewhat happy to be there and thought they knew what they were going to face. UGA was a different beast than what we saw most of the season and TCU didn't have a chance. Hell, I bet the current LA Rams would have had a difficult time beating the Dawgs that played Monday night. I'm afraid that the dominance that Georgia displayed in the title game will turn to "well, TCU wasn't that good" not "UGA took a good team and made them look not up to the task." Saying that TCU wasn't that good completely diminishes the domination that was shown Monday night.
Stetson has big game moxie, but he lacks the big game arm. Yeah he can get the ball down the field, but it takes a while to get there. At 5'11" with good college speed and a medium arm, I don't see Stetson as anything more than a good backup QB in the NFL. Yes, he has the heart of a lion, but the problem is that in the NFL the defense has the speed and the power of a lion too. Stetson is a legend in college football. One of the best winners to ever play the game. I wish him nothing but success in whatever he chooses to do with the rest of his life.
classic BP, loyalty and commitment be d4med, BP gotta look out for BP.
Petrino lit the dumpster on fire is the thing most people forget about Petrino. His last year in Fayetteville he wasn't recruiting, he was having an affair with a person he put on staff as a recruiting coordinator (a position she was not qualified to do), and then lied to his boss about the hiring and then affair (he was married and the woman was then engaged to someone else). If Petrino had been around for the John L. year it would not have been much better as the team had been sapped of SEC quality o-line and defensive players. Nick Saban and Les Miles (among others) had figured him out. IMO Arkansas would have been in just as bad a situation if they kept BP for another year. There probably wouldn't have been the BERT years, but then if that doesn't happen the Hogs probably don't get Pittman and the are struggling with someone like Drinkwitz. Bobby Petrino is an absolute ass of a human being. I wouldn't want him near any of my kids or anything that I like. I don't know why he is seen as a "offensive super-genius" when he hasn't won anything in decades. Yes, his SEMO team almost beat Arkansas last year, but that was his Super Bowl. Plus, his team was healthy, had a roster of P5 cast-offs in the skill positions, and the Arkansas defense was still learning how to cover the pass after the large number of injuries that depleted the secondary.
Favorite new Chris tmas movie is Violent Night. If you haven't seen it, go. Now! Start with Home Alone, add some Nobody, with a helping of Die Hard, and a dash of Chris tmas Vacation. Cover it all in extra drinking and violence and there you have it.
When Petrino was shown the door at Arkansas, one could speculate that Petrino was ready to leave. The recruiting had suffered and he set in motion the decade of roster that was short on SEC talent. Bert tried to fix it, but after Pittman left for UGA Bert forgot how to recruit. I don't care if A&M fails, but it would be a huge mistake for them to even consider the program wrecker in Petrino.
The bye makes Conference Championships and thus the regular season mean more. The BYE week is a HUGE thing in football. Rewarding the best of the best with the bye week makes it that much more important to get it. I am a big fan of the 12 team playoff and it can't get here soon enough for me.
Going to miss Pat trolling the Bear for his pick failures. I think he has been roughly .500 over the past several years. SVP was 9-1 last week with his CFB "Winners" picks and is something like 19 over .500 on the season.
^^^This I have full faith in Coach Pittman to do what is needed.
Thank goodness I don't live in or around Starkville, MS. That has to be one of the most God forsaken pieces of dirt on the planet. And what the hell kind of color is Maroon? I hate it when the Hogs lose to Miss State, those cowbell-heads think they are superior or something. Hello, Arkansas has an all-time winning record vs MSU, more SEC West crowns, more bowl games, more Heisman finalists, more All-Americans, and our Head Coach is a much better person than your coach.
this year was Miss State's first win vs Coach Pitt and the Hogs and you could only do it with the backup QBs playing. Coach Clownface is 1-2 vs Pittman.
Injuries to key players all year. Depth is still not there on the Hill, yet. O-line got punked again today. That is three recent games where the O-line didn't look good at all (Liberty, LSU, Mizzou). Thought O-line was going to be a strength coming into the year, but down the stretch they were hurt and wore down. Hopefully some of this year's freshmen linemen will be ready to step up and make an impact next year. Losing most of the line this year.
and the Hogs played vs LSU (close loss) and Miss State (loss) without KJ and tried to play vs top 25 Liberty with him hurt. Very hard to win in the SEC or vs top 25 ranked opponents when your starting QB is out. Bumper Pool (the heart of the Hogs D) is done for the year and didn't play vs Mizzou and it really showed. Good win Mizzou. You beat the team that was on the field, and that is what you had to do.
Thank you Cocky for saving the college football world from having to watch another Clemson team in the playoffs.
The Hog Curse takes another! Teams are now 3-8 the week after playing the Razorbacks. The only wins are: Cincinnati vs Kennesaw Mountain State Alabama escapes vs Texas A&M LSU vs UAB
If I recall correctly, Arkansas was among Nussmeier's top two or three before he signed with LSU. Of course all that changes is KJ decides not to declare for the NFL draft after the season.
As much as it pains me to say this, I have bad news for Ole Miss. It pains me as Miss State can't lose enough for me. This season teams are 3-7 AFTER playing Arkansas. The three wins: Cincinnati beat Kennesaw State (who?) Alabama survived vs Texas A&M 24-20 LSU beat UAB 41-10 Notable items: A&M would go on to lose the next six games after Arkansas BYU lost to Liberty (who would beat Arkansas) Liberty lost to UConn (and then VaTech) Auburn would (finally) fire Coach Harsin and showed improvement in their next game vs Miss State taking the Bulldogs to OT
Most of the College Football World will be saying Let's Go Carolina! for the next two weeks. South Carolina vs Clemson, then North Carolina vs Clemson. How much you wanna bet that a one loss Clemson is in the playoffs? They would have a better sos than either of the B1G teams with one loss.
Please be true. Leach looks like he is all out of give a s*** Someone needs to see what the deal is with his off-brand, non-logo, not MSU font, generic STATE sweatshirt. Leach is a side show act.
WOOOO PIG! Was at the game at it was spectacular!
where do we chip in to the send leach home fund? I can't stand Miss State, but Leach is a drag on the entire conference
Miss State beat an Arkansas team without KJ and several other key defensive players that played vs Ole Miss. The Hogs are a totally different team with KJ in and healthy.
I'm placing a (fantasy) wager that the next Auburn HFBC is Rhett Lashlee
Rhett Lashlee, hmm. But the last time an SEC school hired a coach from SMU
I hear Jon Gruden is available...
Seems like a pattern, even though Utah State has recently been in the "Bottom 25"
I'll take "What Auburn won't do" for 100...
