Bobby Petrino officially hired as Texas A&M's new offensive coordinator
Bobby Petrino is officially back in the SEC. Texas A&M announced the hiring of Petrino as its new offensive coordinator on Friday.
Petrino takes the OC position after being the head coach of the FCS program Missouri State the past 3 seasons (2020-22). He succeeds Darrell Dickey, who was fired from his post as Texas A&M offensive coordinator after the 2022 season.
Dickey did not call plays for Texas A&M. Jimbo Fisher is expected to hand over play-calling duties to Petrino. In his released statement, Fisher praises Petrino’s play calling:
“I am very happy to add Bobby as our offensive coordinator,” Fisher said. “I always had tremendous respect for him as a head coach, offensive coordinator and play caller. He is one of the best minds in college football. Bobby has a reputation for developing players and we are extremely excited to have him on our staff.”
The last time Petrino was an offensive coordinator as an assistant coach was in 2002 at Auburn. His first stint as Louisville’s head coach followed (2003-06).

Doubling down on smarmy. Oil money makes for strange bedfellows.
Those two A Holes deserve each other.
It has been 20 years since he had a boss. Now he has one that is just as arrogant as he is. I don’t see this working out.
That could depend on the “quality” of the women’s volleyball players.
Over/under on how many weeks into the season before Jimbo and Scooter Bobby have a meltdown on the sideline. My guess 4.
Don’t be surprised if it’s spring practice. Oil and water.
Fisher, Durkin and Petrino is definitely the least loveable combo oil money can buy.
Jimbo will be telling Bobby the plays to call, this will be like when Gus hired the OCs.
I can see the similarity of this hire & Gus/OCs. containing Jimbo’s huge ego will be the key. But Jimbo’s getting a lot of heat now from all the $$$$$ boosters. I believe he’ll turn over the offense to Petrino and watch to see how it’s progressing. Petrino will simplify the offense and the younger players will perform much better with fewer plays to learn. Bobby Petrino coached teams have always been offensively successful.
I can’t imagine this actually working out.
But if you are not an A&M fan, it will be fun to watch.
Jimbo said he had a reputation of developing players. Who in the last 10 years? If he was so good at callings plays and developing players why was he at MO State and UNLV? If he is that good someone would have overlooked his shortcomings before now.

What if this does work out? What then? People will probably be pissed that A&M’s finding success right? Seems to be what pisses people off these days.

I can’t see someone like him being content as just being an OC, especially if the Aggies are successful.
