Todd Grantham spent the 2022 season as an analyst on Alabama’s coaching staff after getting fired as Florida’s defensive coordinator in 2021.
Now he could be in line to get an even more prestigious role depending on a developing situation in Tuscaloosa.
Per Alabama insider Tony Tsoukalas, Grantham is a “viable candidate” for the Alabama defensive coordinator job if the Tide can’t hire Jeremy Pruitt to run the defense:
Grantham has also served as the defensive coordinator at Georgia and Mississippi State in the SEC, in addition to Florida.
Will the Tide be allowed to hire Pruitt? Will someone else take the job? Or will Nick Saban turn the defense over to Grantham for the 2023 season? Big questions face Alabama as this offseason continues.

Jeremy Pruitt may have trouble getting past the compliance office. Would Glenn Schumann want to leave a professional laid back environmental at Georgia to work under a Master Drill Sargent like Nick Saban? Todd Grantham is probably the only option at Alabama.

Welp, if anyone ever wondered how big Nick Saban's ego, this is the answer.
Nick Saban's ego is so big he thinks he can hire Todd Grantham and everyone will get in line behind him on it, and it will be a successful hire.
This is every bit as bad as Bill Belichick making Matt Patricia and Joe Judge Co-OC's.

I don't know if Mullen is a candidate for the OC job, but it would be fascinating if Bama's OC and DC next year were Mullen and Grantham.
You know, in those roles with Saban's framework, I bet Saban could make it work.
Mullen might be one of those guys who is just better as a coordinator than an HC, but then again he might have been at the right place at the right time at Florida under Meyer.
We all know Grantham fizzles out after a couple of years. I would be interested in hearing from former players on what they experienced in between year 1 and year 4 playing under him.
Wouldn't that be something...? The BooHoo Bama sideline would have the Keebler Elf, Cousin Eddie, & Brian Dennehy all together....
Nothing would make me happier than Alabama fans getting burned by 3rd and Grantham when a game is on the line.

For all of TaterHead Pruitts faults he was pretty good DB coach,recruiter and DC. He cleaned up a lot 3rd and Granthams mess at UGA

Todd Grantham would not have Carte Blanche at Alabama like he did at Florida under Mullen.
Saban would dictate the terms of his service. Grantham would know to fall in line or get canned.

Grantham usually has a good year or two before his defenses start spectacularly falling apart. Saban can probably squeeze a good third year out of him before another school comes calling.
