I’m having a hard time figuring out the point of a press conference here, aside from the advertising for Go Big. I also can’t imagine what I assume is a personal injury mill was the best choice for NIL work.
Sad to see him go but it makes sense. Injuries hurt his stats and UGA’s offense spreads the ball around a lot. Probably better off trying to go somewhere he can be a key player to bump his draft stock.
Nah man. Portal! NIL! Anybody who can’t go all the way year one just can’t cut it. /end sarcasm It’s not just about getting better players. Got to change the culture. That takes time to get the right guys in and the wrong guys out.
Exactly. If he had an NFL HC offer he’d be an NFL HC right now.
He can probably make the about the same money in Athens. Less hours in the League since you aren’t recruiting all the time, but that’s not his main job with the Dawgs anyway.
I’d agreed if Jacksonville counts. And in fairness the best thing Jacksonville has going for it is a college football game.
Not when they’ve expanded the playoffs to the point that the Championship is after the Super Bowl.
Music is personal. Nashville is a city with a college not a college town. I’d probably agree with Tom Petty given the combination of legacy and general popularity. Overall Athens has the better music scene though. Right now I’d say the biggest regular season threat to UGA is UT. May turn out to be AU, just can’t know here in January. Similarly for now I’d say LSU over Bama. Young will be hard to replace. I’m not scare of any OoC team next year. The usual suspects to beat a good SEC team all seem to be rebuilding. Might as well play the National Championship on Saturdays. Schedule will have to be overhauled with the 12 team playoff anyway.
“Deformed dogs?” UGA’s lawyer should sue them for slander. Make them argue in court that dogs aren’t people and have no right to sue.
On the one hand, I get it. You got to back your team. Voting them #2 could be the difference in getting them into the top 5 at the end. And maybe he legitimately believes he had the second best team. On the other hand, other coaches don’t seem to do this (at least as obviously) and Saban has the whole act about not caring about polls like this. Regardless if you’re going to take the negative view I think at worst you can say it’s classless rather than that it shows fear.
Early on I remember Pollock almost going out of his way to go against the Dawgs on picks and analysis, presumably to avoid looking like a homer. Totally redeemed himself saying that. It was hilarious seeing him have the balls to say that while right next to Saban.
I’m totally fine with UGA paying anything with in reason to keep Monken around. I knew some fans who were still mad at Muschamp when Kirby hired him. He’s a great DC and a constant reminder to the other guys on staff that not everyone is cut out to be an HC.
Nailed it. I could see Kirby trying the league if he was anywhere else. I just can’t see him leave the place he knows he’d be most happy coaching, with everything he’s been able to build and do, knowing that if it doesn’t work out in the NFL (and history shows it probably wouldn’t), he couldn’t just come back home.
Good news for SC and good call by Rattler.
Sounds like a good call for him. Wish him luck.
He looked pretty rough at last years press conference so this might have been for the best.
Kirby said the plan was play aggressive. Seems like he didn’t overthink it. He realized that despite the talk, UGA outmatched TCU in every matchup. The way to win was to own that and play hard so you don’t outsmart yourself thinking there’s got to be more to it. He’d also learned not to let up and give the other team a chance when you’ve got the edge. That was arguably the last lesson Saban taught him.
Not throwing shade. My point was we won more than pretty much any of the guys you can argue are better. Anybody else someone can name as more talented or skilled didn’t do what SBIV did.
I expect South Carolina to play hard and Ole Miss is a bit of a wild card, but those are both in Athens. Auburn at Jordan-Hare could be interesting, but there’s know way to know right now what they’ll be like at the end of September. Napier still has too much to fix in Gainesville to have me terribly worried about the Cocktail Party. UT in Knoxville looks like the biggest challenge on the schedule at this time. We’ll see how things pan out, but overall it doesn’t look like there are a lot of major threats during the regular season.
He may not be the most talented QB. But he earned MVP in two National Championship games. Can any of those “better” QBs say that?
Man what a beat down. Kirby said the game plan was “aggression.” Played it to a tee. Essentially one busted coverage away from a shutout while setting scoring records. That and the missed PAT are about all there is to criticize. The 2s and 3s even got after it. Not the most exciting game but I’m not complaining.
Gives him something to laugh about during his inevitable CFBHoF induction.
We were the bad guys to a Cinderella story back in the 2008 Sugar Bowl against Hawaii.
Actually I guess we need to keep a December portal so players can start the January semester. Start it the Monday after the end of the regular season and run it for two weeks.
Limit the December early signing day to high schooler’s graduating early and intending to early enroll so you keep the benefit for the kids that need it. Don’t open the portal until the day after the last post season game. Problem solved.
Stafford was the most talented. Murray had the best stats. Bennett is tied for most NC rings and gets the shot to take it all on his own. Fans remember talent. The sports media remember stats. Everyone remembers the rings. That said it’s worth mentioning that Bennett has also played on two of the best, most complete teams that’s UGA has fielded. We focus on the QB but football is a team sport and it’s hard to compare individuals without also looking at the team as a whole.
At least the buyout will make it harder for Petrino to play the boosters for Jimbo’s job.
