Anthony Richardson 2023 NFL Draft stock: Pro Football Focus names best fit for former Florida QB
Anthony Richardson is one of the biggest wildcards in the 2023 NFL Draft. The former Florida QB is dynamic as both a passer and a runner, but he wasn’t able to consistently perform at a high level in Gainesville.
Still, most analysts have Richardson projected to be a first-round pick, so what team would he fit in with best?
Pro Football Focus named the best fits for the draft’s top 4 QB prospects, explaining why Richardson would be a good pick for the Baltimore Ravens:
Signs seem to point to the Ravens and Lamar Jackson not being on the same page with a long-term contract. If they can’t get a deal done, expect Jackson to get the franchise tag. If he gets the tag, one of two scenarios could play out. Jackson could play under the tag, in which drafting a player like Richardson would be ideal since he could sit for at least a full year behind one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the league — a skill set Richardson would love to emulate. Or Jackson could not play on the tag, forcing his way out, in which case Richardson could take over an offense that has been well-equipped to emphasize the rushing ability of a quarterback.
Richardson finished the 2022 season with 2,549 passing yards, 17 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. He added 654 yards and 9 scores as a runner.
He’s not going to Baltimore so you can forget about it.
Why not? Does Baltimore have a sane GM?
Sounds like you might be the Gm of /he Ravens. No way aren’t you the guy who called UF’s program a dumpster fire. Sometimes it’s best if we don’t rip on another team when they are down. Especially when your team is the poster child for being what you were saying about that said team team.
Richardson “Is dynamic both as a passer and a runner”. Let me digest that for a moment . AR15 is a dynamic runner but his passing at Florida was so up-n-down that few if any scouts or analysts were impressed. He seems like a late-rounder that a team can pick up cheap. Playing QB in the NFL for AR15 seems like his dream, nothing more.
He’s likely going to get drafted in the first half of the first round. Not saying I agree with that but I think you’ll be surprised how high he gets drafted.
I agree with Wadeless, though I would expand AR’s range to the full first round. It’s only a question of which GM is crazy enough to buy that lotto ticket.
Hey AFan – aren’t you the one and the same AFan who volfanFL identified as the “most annoying person on SDS”?
How dare you then be this logical and accurate in a comment?????
(:
He’s not going to Baltimore.
docgator…Yes that’s me. Those Vol fans have started a fan club for me; I’m impressed.
If AR goes to Baltimore and Jackson ends up in Tampa to replace Brady, it would be a good day for the Bucs.
Why Tampa Bay? Are there rumors in the mill?
He’s from Florida and Brady isn’t coming back to Tampa (if at all). And everything I hear is that Jackson wore out his welcome by not playing in the playoff game. Who knows but a Bucs fan can hope.
The only way Anthony Richardson gets drafted, much less drafted in the first two rounds, has nothing to do with his demonstrated on-field performance.
It is simply a lottery ticket being purchased by a team that doesn’t have a pressing need at another high value position, and either a bad quarterback or an aging quarterback, with the better alternatives (e.g., Young, Stroud) off the board.
If he somehow magically and suddenly exploits his full physical talents, he has to play under the rookie salary cap rules for (I think) four years, allowing his team to spend money on other players and gain roster building financial leverage.
But it’s a pure lottery ticket and I will still be surprised if he is drafted, much less in the first two rounds.
Just think about how many millions of people in America plunk down their hard earned money on lottery tickets every week Nash. All it takes is just one of 32 GM’s to believe in the “AR has Hall of Fame potential” narrative to plunk down his team’s #1 DC. Heck, he wouldn’t even be betting with his own already banked money.
Totally agree Nash – great young man, superb athlete, but based on the yips he seldom could overcome in college football, being an NFL QB is a bridge too far. The interest for me, assuming he may wind up at Tampa Bay, is only the expected manufactured drama when he competes against Kyle Trask ….. and if that’s not a crying shame, I don’t know what is.
Anything is possible Neal, but Tampa Bay is an unlikely landing spot for AR. They’d have to revamp their offense to accommodate a dual threat QB.
Sure, but as unlikely as it may indeed be, it would sure beat a sharp stick in the eye.
In the 40 couple years of living college football I have never witnessed more hype around someone who really accomplished nothing. He’s going to get a GM fired
As long as Floppy Franks is getting paid to be on a football team, i am not surprised by anything an NFL team does.
Not as a QB Tailwhip. They finally figured out he can’t play that position.
Let me tell you the story of Ron Powlus Sugertits…pull up a chair.
