RJ Young addressed the 3-man quarterback competition at Ole Miss following the transfers of Spencer Sanders and Walker Howard to join Jaxson Dart with the Rebels.

Young pointed out that Dart was good enough to start for Ole Miss, but not to the point that Lane Kiffin didn’t want to bring in competition.

“Which is another way of saying he’s out here to win,” Young said. “It’s also another way of saying, ‘Why am I going to waste my time recruiting a quarterback out of high school if I can go get guys out of the portal that I know can play.”

Young also spoke to the reasons why Howard and Sanders would want to land at Ole Miss. Sanders believes he can beat out Dart, and Howard is playing the long game.

“I really think it’s going to be Spencer Sanders versus Jaxson Dart, but if nothing else, you’ve got a great backup quarterback no matter what you do,” Young said. “That said, I don’t think Spencer Sanders is good enough to beat out Jaxson Dart.”

Young noted that there’s a reason why Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy let Sanders walk.

“This only is Spencer Sanders gambling on himself and I respect the hell out of that because I’m that type,” he said.

Young closed by saying that Kiffin has shown in the past to rely heavily on an offensive star, be it Quinshon Judkins or Derrick Henry. He believes Dart will be the starter, and Howard can be in the future.
