“That’s a 1-19 mark against Power 5 teams that went on to win at least 9 regular-season games”. “We know that even if he isn’t directly calling plays, Ole Miss’ offense is still in the hands of one of the best minds in the sport.” Well, whatever . . . Kiffen is the perfect coach for Ole Miss. May he reign forever.
That would be the perfect hire to assure becoming the New Florida. Hurry up and do the deal.
“Conversely, Alabama did not quite have the offensive talent it has had in the past in 2022, which plays to McElroy’s later point. . .” _____________________ Really? That certainly proves that for a while now Alabama’s “top tier” recruiting was only an illusion and the automatic five star upgrade given by the recruiting services wasn’t really earned. The reality is that historically, with the exception of Saban, their coaching staffs were problematic. What we may be seeing is a team that has historical difficulty finding top tier coaches and that, sooner rather than later p, will be right back in the good old days and a list of coaches just like Perkins, DeBose, Franchione and Kines. Stalling’s championship was lightning in a bottle. Nothing is going to change except Saban departing before it is too late to preserve his legacy. Darn NIL.
Just a note of caution TexasTig75. Posting something that makes sense on this site will incur consequences.
Not so fast. Here’s the real deal. The Tigers wanted to get Howard some real playing time but he wasn’t likely to start ahead of Nuss so Howard agreed to hit the portal. Nuss succeeds Daniels, has a great year and then leaves early for the pros. A more experienced Howard re-hits the portal again and returns to LSU along with the Kiffen playbook. The young man bleeds purple and gold. Kiffen, feeling betrayed and exposed by the portal, leaves to become OC at Colorado. Being close to Coach Prime is one step closer to Saban and the Bama HC job. P.S. This is not satire.
Aw, don’t be so tough on GeauxTuger. Just about everything posted here is low-level satire.
In every NIL transaction the money that changes hands is either someone’s income or it is a gift. Either way, someone who is a party to the transaction is legally obligated to characterize and report the transaction on a tax return. Maybe some of the new 87,000 new revenue agents can sort that out and deal with whomever fails to file the proper return and pay the taxes due. Bring that down to the state level where income taxes are due so boosters will have to worry about whether the government people who are responsible for collecting taxes might now or in later years also be fans of enemy teams and might be interested in tax audits and prosecution of offending boosters. Most taxing authorities can, and will, audit present and prior years’ returns creating long-term worries. When boosters have to worry about the politics of audits and whether players and handlers, er “advisors”, are paying taxes to avoid being caught up in a conspiracy to evade taxes we may have a real solution to the NIL problem. Should you think all of this is nuts, then consider what might happen if the more numerous “have-nots” band together to force conferences to properly characterize “advisors” who are compensated for their services as “agents” whose signing currently results in immediate player ineligibility. Wouldn’t teams hunting in the portal have to make sure that a target player with a previous NIL deal did not share the money with a de facto agent?
If A&M is not a whole lot better a whole lot of NIL money will have been flushed down the commode.
Alabama will learn that adjusting to a new coordinator has usually been a problem for most teams. However, finding an upgrade over Golding shouldn’t be difficult for Saban unless there is serious doubt among viable candidates about Saban’s longevity. It could be as short as a year.
TCU - TCwho? Teams that have not run the SEC gauntlet (with the exception of last year’s Ohio State) do not belong in the Playoffs. TCU brought new meaning to football affirmative action. Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and LSU would have won over TCU.
I think he may wind up reuniting with his former high school and Tiger teammate Jack Besh now at TCU. Sorry to lose him but the completion level in the Big 12 may be more appealing than the gauntlet in the SEC.
Well, the Tide lost to a team that the Midget ranked 17th in his rather petulant poll. Expect to lose to the same team in 2023.
Sure. Arkansas would have “romped” Georgia IF only the razorbacks had made it to the playoffs.
That was an impressive win Bulldogs so enjoy it while you can. Don’t be surprised if Kirby shortly gets an “offer he can’t refuse” from the Miami Dolphins, is there for a year then magically leaves to become Alabama’s head coach. It worked once before so, it can work again.
You are making way too much sense. Football is a team sport. Georgia has a championship level team. Bennett’s “story” helps him a lot but not as much as the skill level of the current team. P.S. just don’t embarrass the SEC tonight.
“Did you know Stetson Bennett was a walk-on? Did you know Stetson Bennett beat out a 5-star QB for the starting job? Is he just a game manager? Is Stetson Bennett even good? Those questions and narratives have been beaten like a dead horse by fans and the media for over 2 years.” ______________________ Um, yes and the horse told me he was sick and tired of being beaten and that I shouldn’t read this article.
Kelley and Heupel are both highly competent coaches who didn’t overachieve their respective abilities. What they both did was exceed fan and sports show Talking Heads’ prognostications. You are correct however in thinking about a new level of competition in both divisions. And, things are improving at USCe, maybe Kentucky and even Vanderbilt so Georgia will no longer be playing in a mini-ACC. There is a big shake-up looming in Fall 2023.
The coach “who left” that you are talking about got a lot of credit for that 2019 Tiger offense has bounced around a bit after leaving and, as far as I know may still be looking for a job equivalent to the one he left at LSU. Despite no longer being able to take credit for Steve Ensminger’s play calling, he would certainly be an upgrade at Florida and might contribute to its downward trajectory. P.S. Mullen and 0 are is still counting their buyout money and laughing.
Impressive win. That was the best bowl-prepared Tiger team I’ve seen in a long time. Congrats to the players, coaches and analysts on a completely “aligned” game.
Because for weeks all we have been hearing from Dawg fans was how your team would beat everyone in the playoffs by at least 100 points. Your team won because the Buckeyes had an unlucky kicker and nothing your team did on that play had anything to do with the miss. You and the rest of your fans were convinced that the Dawgs were going down. Odd and lucky.
Impressive Froggys - exposed the pretentious Big (euphemistically speaking ) 10. Georgia will finish them off in a couple of hours.
Um, what other people who aren’t wearing the crimson rose-colored glasses see is that when a 4-star player commits to the Tide he is immediately awarded the Saban additional fifth star and a lot of them are overrated. Your fans may have a favorite in the playoffs but it won’t be the overrated Tide.
We are wondering when you will get the results from your guy’s lie detector test. Any updated delivery date yet?
Nope, just yells about Roll Tide people. Wouldn’t be surprised if he started yelling at fat dogs though.
I should have mentioned that boosters aren’t the only people with money to pay players. But they do need to worry about who else may have money to pay players and not necessarily to play well but on the Vegas side of the spread.
Unfortunately, it will take a while for all of us to see the ultimate effect of NIL. There are a number of possible outcomes but college football has existed for a long time with boosters paying players, money being funneled through churches or other “charities” with the only weak and inconsistent regulation. The difference is that most of us were never sure how much money was changing hands. So far, one might fairly conclude that NIL hasn’t worked all that well, at least yet at Texas A&M and, if highly paid players prove to be disruptive to team chemistry teams with no significant NIL will have the last laugh. We may well see an evolution resulting in something like a program system based on the professional models where players don’t even have to attend school or, if they do they can major in physical a pure physical education curriculum. Ultimately, “eyeballs” will tell the tale. If people stop watching or listening in, if stadium seats are empty because the game has morphed into something like fake pro wrestling or televised “fantasy” leagues, that will be a sad, sad day. One of my friends who is an Auburn fan did happily report that today he is happy because he has confirmed that Nick Saban isn’t really a great coach - he just benefits from boosters buying better players.
