If he can control that cannon, he'll keep defenses stretched all season.
I agree with your points. First... there is no defending it. He was drunk in public. Don't defend it. Just own it and move forward. Learn from it. Grow. Be a better man. Second, Stet is living his own life. He doesn't need fans defending him. Third... who cares what fans of other teams are saying about it? This isn't about football. And it isn't about Georgia's program. It's about Stetson. May not hurt his draft chances any... but certainly doesn't help them either.
Sorry.... no sympathy here. Want to be a man, then act like a man. Behaviors have consequences. No excuses.
It will self-correct. Collectives aren't going to pay for a kid who isn't liked (because he doesn't earn his keep). This is going to damage teams...TEAMS. It is not just about talent. Collectives will find that they are not seeing ROI. Players will start talking publicly about their teams. Coaches will quit and leave for the NFL. The question is how much much damage will be done to college football before it is able to correct itself. Either way, the sport we love is gone, even if we don't see it yet.
Would love to know if you find a place to land. I agree that SDS' lack of moderation has created a cesspool environment. Sometimes it just become intolerable. But I agree that in fairness, the majority are good souls who love their teams. It's a shame.
These articles are tiresome. I don't blame Cory at all... it's what they are paid to do. Here's the thing... Georgia is Georgia. And Bama is Bama. And based on the recruiting, the amount of money they are putting into their program, and the level of coaching, neither team is going anywhere. There will be others that join them every year... some of those may be permanent, depending on the level of their commitment and their ability to recruit. Georgia is going to win some... Bama is going to win some... others might. But Georgia is not Bama and doesn't have the desire to be. Bama is unique. Georgia is unique. Both are going to get body blows in. And both are going to throw occassional knockout punches. THAT is the new normal.
I think Matt's article is a little over the top. Saban gets a vote. Period. And he believes his team is the second best team in the country. I saw much worse voting this year.
Yeah... I'd say the rent-free thing is both played-out AND a dodge. Just because someone has a problem with Kirby, or Nick, or Josh, or whoever, it doesn't mean they are obsessed fans whose dislike of Saban clouds said fans' every thought. It's more a commentary on the person who plays the "rent-free card."
A lot of college coaches are leaving for the NFL because the lifestyle is so much easier than at the college level. College coaches live in the grinder and never really escape it. That said, if Kirby leaves some day, it won't be soon. It certainly won't be while he is on top of the world. He gets to live in Athens and spend time with his family. I also think it is important to note that his style of coaching works well with 18-22 year olds. But it won't translate well in the NFL. He understand work, and the x's and o's... but that temper won't fly. Look at Saban, Spurrier, Holtz, Petrino. College success does not guarantee NFL success.
Now is the time to enjoy the win. Now is the time to appreciate everything about this game of college football that we all love so much. Now is the time to relish in the idea that we all get to cheer for SEC teams. We can worry about repeating later.
Good question. I always thought it was a sort of gentlemen's agreement. More tradition.
While I think Georgia fans appreciate what the Seiler family has done... that line has become just too unhealthy. Not to mention it is a bit embarrassing to see him in the dog house asleep on a bag of ice. He never moves. He's elderly, but in the past they ushered in a new, younger dog.
And yet... restaurants and bars in every college town in America are booming on game day in spite of tailgating. Typical California anti free-market mentality... treat consumers like idiots and take away their choices. California is clueless when it comes to college football culture.
Ohio State definitely had the ability to beat Georgia. I don't think USC would have even made it close.
Well deserved after 4 years as a Dawg. Let's end with a bang next Monday.
This has felt like an exhausting season. First Oregon... then SC looming. That goes well, but you have a scary game against Mizzou. Get past that and UF and KY are looming (I know, I know, but it was a different feeling at that point in the season). Then the "game of the year" against Tennessee. Then LSU is going to upset Georgia in the SEC. Then the stress-bomb that was the Peach Bowl. Georgia fans are new to this. Is defending a championship more stressful on a fan than going after one?
Very well reasoned post, gwhite. I agree with all of it. Sometimes I feel you guys hold Georgia fans accountable for all the garbage pundits and sports writers regurgitate during the year. I think Georgia fans have been pretty realistic about this season... the blah showing against Kent St, the near miss against Missouri, the passing yards allowed by LSU. I never thought Ohio State was a gimme... there was always a chance they would win. But I also think it says something that we Georgia found itself in the eye of the cyclone and still managed to come out with a win. It missed two field goals that it would normally make, and still got the win. It played pretty poorly at times... and still got the win. So no regrets... I am happy the Dawgs get the chance to play TCU Monday.
What a New Year's Eve. I kept thinking we had them right where we wanted them... and then they would score again. Stet played both poorly and brilliantly... sometimes within a few minutes of each other. In the end, the offense delivered. OSU is a high-powered offense, but something doesn't seem quite right with our D. Maybe this was a wake-up call.
Fun night for you, maybe. I aged 5 years in four hours. My wife and I didn't even notice midnight until after the kick.
First of all, contact from the ground on the elbow caused the fumble. He was down the millisecond the elbow touched. I've watched the targeting play 10 times. No defenseless player. No helmet-to-helmet that I can see. I can't see any targeting anywhere on the field. Was their another angle that showed it. I saw most of the game but didn't see the OT.
It was a safety. No question. They got that call wrong twice.
Generational.... everything is generational now. I'm happy Jalen is on our side of the ball. Wish Nolan Smith was on the edge.
Let's go, Rebels! SEC against everyone.
Love it when a great athlete is also a gracious kids. As we say in the south... that young man was raised right.
If you count Texas and Oklahoma, it's 7 of the top 10... and 10 of the top 15.
Ok that's pretty funny. And this guy is probably so fired. But.... This is an "SEC Football" story?
