Sumlin inherited JFF but was dead in the water after Johnny left (after his sophomore year! grrr) No, Sumlin was not better than Jimbo. He started every season undefeated for 5-6 games and would get us in the top 10, but after we lost the first game, we'd lose 3 more and end up 8&4, unranked.

I've been rooting for the Ags since mid-70's; we got to #2 in '75, I think, then got blown out by Arky and dropped like a rock. Then Slocum got us an undefeated season in 92 or so, but a tie with SMU at the Alamodome compounded by being on probation (no bowl game) cost us consideration in both polls. Otherwise, Jimbo and Kellon Mond got us to 4 after the 2000 Orange bowl. I sincerely appreciate the non-toxic comments from all over. Although I'm still on the Jimbo bandwagon, I am concerned about his inflexibility and lack of insight. Personally, this is how I see it playing out: despite his 5-year presence, he is stacking top 5 classes for 3 years, culminating with his recent top class; he will NOT start Weigman this year unless he has no choice(injuries to QB1&2). AD, chancellor and BOR watch as this class matures, which could take as long as 2026, assuming Weigman redshirts now and stays 4 years. If he gets it done, you all eat crow (I may dead by then; I'll just haunt ya instead). by that time, he'll have 4 years left on contract, and the buy-out will be affordable, if he doesn't come up with a Natty (do I hear a CFP playoff spot? a NY6 bowl? anything?!?), but that timetable gets moved up before 2026 if Weigman transfers or some other catastrophe happens. Fortunately, those never happen in College Station. just in Starkville...

I do hope we get a more Manzielish QB but I think Johnson is what we've got this year, though the receivers are good and getting better, though we are having too many drops still.

Tough for a great guy to have to live with, but I have nothing but admiration for him. I don't think we lose to Arky, but I am concerned that we lose one of either Arky, MSU and/or Miami. Sorry, but I think we lose to Bama (and they win the NC). My biggest worry is that we are developing an "LSU jinx," but to me the biggest difference between coaches is that Sumlin's teams started hot but then fizzled after their first loss, but Jimbo's teams get better and better we get into the season, so please, don't lose to LSU. Best case: 11-1 and CFP appearance; more likely: 10-2 (winning out after Bama), which sets us up nicely for NC chances in 2023. Disappointing would be 9-3 with a loss to LSU (or UF or OM). Anything worse than this would give fuel to the 8-4 naysayers.

I agree, but not because of "the spat." I think Bryce plays the game of his collegiate career to make up for last year's game in CS. He might win the Heisman again, and I think you guys win another NC. Do you think Saban retires, if that happens?

I totally respect Saban for what he has accomplished, but he lied and Jimbo called him on it. Negan, consider me Rick. Get over yourself. You don't get to make the rules, nor deny anyone freedom of speech. If Bama fans want their coach treated with more respect, they should show more respect. For now, I'd settle for less denial of the facts. Respect is a 2-way street.

I don't know what Jimbo knows about Saban's recruiting in the past, but his comments suggest he does know more than he's letting on, which Saban fully understands. I actually admire Saban for what he has accomplished, and I'd be happy with 1 Natty at A&M, but Saban crossed the line, probably not intentionally, but Yes, it did get Jimbo's ire up because the integrity of his program and his players were questioned. Before Saban won his first NC at Bama, he had #1 recruiting classes, but his first teams had mediocre seasons, yet he got blue-chippers to buy into his vision (congrats! it's worked well). But when Jimbo does the same thing, no one believes that kids would go to A&M and we are made to endure insults and accusations that Saban and his folks did not have to endure. Why the double standard? Did Bama under Saban pay those players? I think they did, but I don't have proof, so I don't go around making accusations. Why can't we get the same courtesy? Seems double-standard to me.
