Auburn announces former QB as new radio analyst, just the 3rd in the last 43 years
An Auburn great is taking the microphone in the radio booth, as one former quarterback will replace another for the Tigers ahead of the 2023 season.
After Stan White announced his retirement from the Auburn radio booth at the conclusion of the 2022 season, the school announced that Jason Campbell would be Auburn Sports Network’s football radio analyst this season. Campbell, who led the Tigers to an undefeated and historic season as a senior in 2004, will step in for White, who served in that capacity for 22 years from 2001-22.
It’s a historic move for Auburn. Campbell becomes just the third football radio analyst over the last 43 years for Auburn, joining White (2001-22) and former Auburn signal caller Charlie Trotman (1980-2000). But he’s not new to radio. Campbell joined the Auburn Sports Network radio crew in 2016 serving as a pregame and halftime show analyst. Campbell worked several A-Day spring games as the radio analyst joining former Auburn Voice of the Tigers Rod Bramblett and current Auburn voice Andy Burcham.
“I would like to thank God for this amazing opportunity to continue doing something I enjoy and love,” Campbell said. “I appreciate the Auburn Sports Network team and Stan for their immediate confidence in me as I move into the analyst role. I know I have incredibly big shoes to fill. It has been a privilege watching and learning from Stan during our time in the booth together. Auburn Family, I look forward to sharing great memories with you alongside the Voice of the Tigers, Andy Burcham, this fall.”

I can name a lot of the color analysts through the years for Auburn, from the late 50’s to present, but I do not know all the play by play guys. I know most of them though. I will name who I remember and if anyone can fill in the blanks comment please: Color Analysts- Charlie Davis, Gusty Yearout, Pat Sullivan, Mike Kolen, Charlie Trotman, Stan White, Jason Campbell.
Announcers: ? Gary Sanders, ? Jim Fyfe, Rod Bramblett, Andy Burcham.
“You are so right Gary”- Shug :)
That line was: “You’re so right Carl” for the Auburn football review host Carl Stevens who preceded Phil Snow.
I knew Phil Snow a little. He was friends with some of my family. He always seemed like a nice man. He is another that we watched on the news when I was young.
You are missing Buddy Rutledge as announcer. He was a sports guy I think for Channel 42. He was in a wheelchair from polio and died pretty young from a heart attack. I am a little low on info as I was very young at the time but knew him because that was the station my father watched at that time.
Thanks!
You are welcome, Kev.
I finally found all the names. In the mid to late 1950’s, it was Dan Daniels, then Tom Hamlin who were the play by play announcers for the Tigers with Charlie Davis as the color Analyst. This was during Shug’s glory years including a National Championship in ’57. In 1960 Buddy Rutledge took over the play by play calling until 1968, with Charlie Davis. Gary Sanders took over in 1968 and worked with Charlie Davis until 1970, then Gusty Yearout as Color Analyst guy. Gary was with Auburn until 1978 when Paul Ellen took over play by play duties for Auburn for two seasons 1979 and 1980. Mike Kolen, former Auburn and Miami Dolphins LB, was the Color Analyst. In 1981 Jim Fyfe took over with Pat Sullivan as the Color analyst until about 1986, then Charlie Trotman took over, then Stan White around 2000. In 2003, Jim Fyfe died and Rod Bramblett became play by play man in 2004 (with Stan White as Color analyst) until 2019, when he and his wife were killed in a car wreck. Andy Burcham took over with again Stan White as color analyst until now, when he retired.Jason Campbell now will step in to that role.
Congratulations Jason!
Having said that I wonder the REAL reason why Stan resigned…..
I went to HS with Stan White but lost contact. His kids are older and I know he loved to be in the booth. Hmmmmm
I have always liked Jason. Though I thought he would go into coaching. It is good to see him back at AU in some capacity.
AUsome news!!! Couldn’t tell you the last time I listened to a game on the radio due to Stan White’s constant whining and crying about any and everything.
