It probably doesn’t matter as much at the end of the season but higher ranked teams get more coverage and often better TV slots. Even the crawlers typically only show the top 25 scores and the game highlights are focused on the top 25.
He isn’t a sure thing qb. The most likely scenario is he doesn’t start as a true freshman. If he starts as a redshirt freshman then he is either a star that leaves after only two years of starting or he is not good enough to go to the NFL after starting for two years. If the former is the case then that is a lot of $ to pay for two years. If the later is the case then he isn’t worth the money. It’s a lose lose proposition.
I guess by your logic South Carolina should be rated higher than TN. They took a step forward and absolutely trounced TN this year.
Michigan has won the last two against OSU but the talent disparity is huge. In the log run it always comes down to talent when there is such a large gap. It is by no means Michigan’s conference. OSU annually has the talent to win it all. Michigan has made the playoffs but really had no chance of winning it all.
If OSU makes the kick there is no talk of dynasty instead it’s what do we need to do to fix the secondary. It’s amazing how one play can totally change the narrative. No matter how good you are you need breaks along the way to win it all that’s why it is so hard to repeat. It’s too early to call UGA a dynasty but if they keep up at this pace they might end up being one.
This wasn’t shocking. What was shocking was people thinking TCU had a chance. Their won loss record was impressive but they weren’t impressive. They play in a weak conference where they narrowly won most games. Their last four games were a fire drill fg on the last play to beat an average Baylor team, a blowout of a bad Iowa St, a loss to K St, and a narrow win against a good but not great Michigan team where everything went their way. Keep in mind that Michigan would be fifth in composite talent in the SEC. If you look at the talent composition of the big 12 teams you will see that Texas and OU are the only teams that are inside of the top 32 and they were massive under performers this year. In the end this game played out as it should. The team with the massive talent advantage winning in a blowout. So let’s bring on the 12 team playoffs where we can watch a bunch these type of games.
TCU has been living on the edge all season. They were constantly coming from behind all season and pretty much everything went right for them to squeak out the Michigan win. UGA is by far the most talented team they will play this year. I don’t see this one being close.
From an X and O prospective he might be fine but there is a lot more that goes into having a winning program. If he doesn’t get along with the players and coaches it has the potential of creating an overall bad environment and could also negatively impact recruiting. I’m skeptical of a guy who’s career was on an upward trajectory but has been on a downward trajectory for a long time.
The article says Freshman Walker Howard will redshirt. Last time I looked he redshirted this year.
The point was made is that LSU threw for so many yards because it was a blow out. It was a 14 pt game until 2:48 left in the first half and Daniels threw for 208 in the first half so LSU’s first half passing yards had nothing to do with the score. They threw it well from the opening possession not just when the game was out of hand. You can argue that the second half yards had something to do with the score but I don’t know how you are explaining the first half.
The score may have had a little to do with the LSU game but it wasn’t the main factor. Daniels had over 200 yds in the first half and moved it consistently beginning with the opening possession. He was on pace to have a 400 yd game before the score got out of hand.
I think SEC fans tend to shrug off OSU because they are in the Big 10 but the reality is they are the 3rd most talented team in the country who are capable of lighting up any defense when playing well. TCU only played two teams with top 10 talent. Those are Texas and OU and those two grossly underperformed relative to their talent. The rest of the Big 12 are 40th or worse. Michigan is ranked 13th in composite talent which is not remotely close to UGA. History has shown that you need at least top 10 talent to win it all. This doesn’t mean that TCU doesn’t have a shot but they would be a huge outlier.
The shoe was on the other foot last year when LSU had a terrible team and beat A&M. Congratulations on your five win season maybe A&M will have commemorative cups next year with the LSU score on it like they did for the 7 OT game.
If he is a jerk that is hard on players you might see a lot players enter the portal.
Do you realize that TCU scored at least 40 points in only 7 of their 14 games in a conference where defense is optional? OSU scored at least 40 in all but three of their games and one of those was in almost unplayable conditions against Northwestern. OSU is a much more talented team so I wouldn’t assume that TCU can do the same thing OSU did.
I read a lot of excuses about the LSU game. Mostly about the game being out of hand that’s why they gave up so many yards but Daniels had over 200 yds in the first half and Nussmier lit them up from the start of the second half. The reality is the UGA pass defense is not good and can be exploited by good receivers. LSU and OSU have really good receivers. Are TCU’s receivers that good and can their O-line hold up? Also, keep in mind that the only teams that recruit better than OSU are Bama and UGA. TCU doesn’t have close to the overall talent that OSU has.
I hear this lighting in a bottle comment all the time. O flamed out spectacularly because he reached the mountaintop and didn’t have the drive to keep it going. But he needs to be given credit for 2019. The thought behind hiring him in the first place was you need a top 5 roster to compete with Bama and you can pay for assistants. The 2019 roster wasn’t luck it was his recruiting and talent evaluation. He hired Brady who was an unknown Saints assistant. Most of the success in CFB is due to recruiting so he needs to get credit for doing a great job on the most important aspect of his job. The record got better each year from the time he took over and culminated in 2019. When Saban has the best players, 5 star quarterbacks, and the best assistants money can buy nobody says a peep but when a guy like O recruits an incredibly talented team, has a great qb, and a very good staff he is just lucky. Saban is wired different he is 100% focused on football and is never satisfied. O isn’t wired that way and couldn’t keep it going but stop the lightning in a bottle stuff. He built that team and staff over several years it wasn’t given to him.
You know very little about LSU. One of the most important things Kelly has done is fix the locker room. Miles was not fired from LSU for off field issues. He was fired because he refused to change from 3 yards and a cloud of dust football. He was fired from Kansas for off field issues. The downward trajectory of almost every on field measurable for O was what got him fired.
Other fans love to bash the SEC on their bowl record but the SEC loses more players due to opt outs because they have more NFL prospects. They often play teams that don’t have many or no opt outs and are more motivated. This game was between two teams with a bunch of opt outs and it showed how much deeper LSU is.
I think OSU getting blown out in their title game had more to do with them being ranked fourth than a conspiracy. You can look at it two ways. Putting OSU third would have guaranteed that the Big 10 gets one team in the championship game or putting them fourth gives the Big 10 a chance at two in the final.
I think they were fired up for this game. It was a bad match up for them. UGA weakness is pass defense and OSU strength is it’s passing game. Every team has weaknesses and UGA overcame theirs for a great win.
What is his point? TCU is extremely fortunate to be in the playoffs. They were not a dominating team. They only won 2 games by more than 10 pts and needed to come from behind late in several games.
If you had a winning lottery ticket would you leave it on the front seat of your car or put it in a safe? Not playing in a bowl game and risking injury is the equivalent of putting his lottery ticket in a safe. Fans selfishly want the players to play in meaningless bowl games and bad mouth them when they opt out. Very few of us have the opportunity to make that kind of money especially an opportunity that can vanish in one unfortunate play.
And what did other conferences have this year? Big10 only had OSU and UM, Big 12 only had TCU, PAC 12 didn’t have a dominate team (USC and Utah are both pretty average), and the ACC didn’t have a good team.
Going for it on fourth down from your own 10 yd line in the first half is insane.
The SEC is down this year but I put no stock in the bowl game record other than the playoff games. Transfers and opt outs have killed the bowls and the more talented teams are are more likely to be hit hardest with opt outs. Also the bowl pecking order usually has a team that finished higher in their conference against a team that finished lower in the SEC.
There is a lot of hypocrisy going on. Jimbo admitting it is pay for play and not NIL shows how far this has gotten out of hand.
There is nothing they can do about opt outs. The only good thing that has happened is not counting the bowl games in the max 4 games played before losing losing a year of eligibility. I agree that outside of the playoff games the bowls have become a joke. LSU only had 39 players and a WR playing QB in their bowl game last year.
