Not necessarily, it's not like he's some scrub they found at a D2 school. Garcia had offers from Alabama, Florida, Ohio State, Texas and USC. Even if you like your QBs, you'd still be interested in landing him.
If Cook does win the job, I'll feel better about it knowing someone besides Drink was influencing that decision. If Cook can develop his passing game he could be a good player. I know players want to play, but Cook didn't do himself any favors by playing injured and underperformed because of it.
I think the loser between horn and Garcia will transfer next year. Probably Cook as well. I'm fine with that, I just want a good QB. We've got a really good recruit from Washington coming in behind all these guys too.
KB got injured in the 2nd game of the season and was plagued by it all year. And Garcia isn't Bryant, Drink isn't Odom, etc. Apples and oranges.
Not divorced, They separated, and I'm guessing it was just a formality so their kid could join the team.
Drink has brought in a new Offensive coordinator, an elite QB, and 2 elite WRs in the last month. He's clearly committed to changing the identity of the offense. He has won back my support, for now at least. He's embracing his true role as CEO and doing what's best for the program. Guys, if this Offense clicks like the defense did, this 2023 team could be special. The defense should be as good or better this fall. I don't see any way Cook wins the job again. Horn and Garcia need to duke it out for the starting job and hopefully the competition lights a fire. They're already rivals with each other so this should be interesting.
SECOND AGO I think Drink showed some maturity with this hire. Part of me expected him to dig his heels in and insist on calling plays, which would’ve certainly led to his firing next year. He may still be fired but at least we have some hope during the off-season. 8 wins is the minimum next year, and we darn-well better beat K-State.
Never can have too many linemen, depth is usually necessary as the season goes on. Glad to have him.
I think extensions are for appearances only, to keep recruits from turning away due to uncertainty. Drink could be a good coach, I still think he can win here. He just needs to get out of his own way, and he did by hiring an OC. Recruiting is good. Defense is good. Offense has alot of potential.
Clearly Tennessee runs Heupel's system though so I'm a little surprised by this. How much will this guy really control? Mizzou also hired an OC but we actually needed one. Tennessee was rolling with Heupel. Though I do wonder how things will be without Hooker. Heupels system doesn't work as well without an elite QBs and WRs.
I'd rather have a young up-and-coming high-ceiling coach than a worn out old retread. Every great coach was a no-name in the past. Mizzou is never going to draw the elite coaches so the next best thing is a promising guy who succeeded at a lower level. With the talent Mizzou has on offense right now, I think the right coach could do what Blake baker did for the defense. Now drink can focus on running the program and recruiting.
This is exactly what drink needed to do to win back our trust. I don't know much about Kirby Moore but it sounds like he did a great job at Fresno. It would've been a real struggle to watch another year of drink's offense, my interest is renewed.
This is awesome. This defense should be fantastic next year.
A good HC surrounds himself with talented players and coaches. Drink has done a decent job at Mizzou, aside from his stubbornness to give up control of the offense. That should be the new years resolution, to hire an OC and let them install a new system.
How is it a bad look for Mizzou instead of just Bailey? I watch alot of football and you never see opposing players helping opponents get up. You should be complementing Rakestraw but instead you found a way to indict the whole Missouri program... get a clue.
Well, on the bright side I don't have to watch my pathetic team lose again for the next 9 months. Maybe it was fortunate we didn't play kansas because they probably would've won too. 17 points... you could tell drink was back in control of the offense by the utter lack of production. Hopefully Cook transfers, I'm sure he'd do well at a G5 school.
Yep. The transfer portal (and new DC) transformed our defense from laughable to dominant in one year. We need the same magic on offense now.
I'm a little surprised at this considering Levis had an arguably unimpressive tenure but this addition keeps Kentucky in contention for the East for at least 1 more year. I'm envious but I can't blame a QB for not wanting to play for Drinkwitz.
I think he had potential but unfortunately drinks scheme wouldn't allow him to show it. I sincerely hope Drink has been taking interviews for OC.
Yeah... certainly diminishes my opinion of the man.
According to Luther Burden's father, there's no chance Lovett returns to Mizzou.
Awesome! 2 5- star receivers at Mizzou. Don't let the doorknob hit you, Lovett.
This is great news, this class needed some better recruits. Although it literally doesn't matter anymore, by the time he's ready to start he'll probably transfer.
I wanted to smash the life out of kU, unfortunately we aren't getting that game. kansas has been thumbing their nose at Mizzou for over a decade so I guess we should return the gesture. Hope Arkansas obliterates them.
"The only reason I can think that Drink wouldn’t want the game is the fear of losing." Maybe read the other comments before making an ignorant comment. Mizzou doesn't want the Liberty bowl, regardless of the opponent, because it conflicts with a huge basketball ball game.
