Albany State walks back scholarship offer to former Florida QB commit
The recruitment of Marcus Stokes has seen another twist.
Earlier this week, the former Florida quarterback commit received a new offer from Albany State University, a HBCU in Georgia. This came after his Florida offer was revoked by the university after he was seen on video rapping the N-word. After Stokes received the Albany State offer, he’s since received an offer from Alabama A&M.
HBCU Gameday reported that new Albany State head football coach Quinn Gray is walking back the offer he issued to Stokes. Gray, who was introduced as head coach earlier this week, was apparently reprimanded by the school’s president Marion Ross Fedrick for the offer.
Here is an apology from Gray:
Let me start with a humble apology. An apology for not honoring the tradition and history of ASU and for letting many of you down.
I didn’t uphold the Ramily standard that I know you expect. Please know that my decision to speak with a student that did not meet your expectations was unacceptable. I only wanted the best for our team, athletes, and institution when I invited the student to visit ASU. As I say to our players, “there is a consequence to every action.” The consequences of my actions brought pain to our University. I was trying to help a student get back in competition, and in my haste, I did not consider the impact the decision would have on all of you. Frankly, it wasn’t my place to use ASU as the platform for redemption in this case. I regret that I used flawed judgment. If given the opportunity, I will do better.
ASU expects excellence. The president has made it clear that my actions did not meet that standard. It was never my intent to misrepresent what ASU stands for nor to ignore the rich history of this institution. I am fully committed to the University’s mission of supporting academic excellence and student success.
Being accepted into the Ramily is something that you have to earn. The Ramily embodies the spirit, authenticity, and love forged from the toil of giants before me. My actions caused you to question my commitment to our institution and our ancestors. As the consequences go, I hope to find a way back into the Ramily. Without a doubt, I will be all in. Go Rams.
The school was horrified by his craterous pizza face.
I hate the current year. Pathetic vindictive society. Dude sung along with a rap song and his football career is over no matter how much he grovels.
If you’re not black don’t say it. Simple.
How hard is it to not say one simple word?
Can we get all non-whites to quit uttering anything whites find offensive? I find being inferred as “not a person of color” offensive, isn’t white a color? And let me tell you about that ritz word…how hard is it to quit calling us crackers crackers? One simple word…
To test that hypothesis, I used a word meaning, “stingly, holding back” – one that is often confused by overly sensitive people with a common racial slur – and immediately wound up in moderation.
I’ll see now if I can work around it as is so often the case on this site. The word is: n-i-g-g-a-r-d-l-y.
Esto es una mierda
No si lo piensas, mi amigo.
You do realize it’s censored because people on here have tried to bypass the censors right?
Caramba señores, no sabía que ustedes hablan mi lenguaje original.
VolfanFL, although I’ll cede that you are the smartest guy in the room as you have sustained many times before, but you’d be surprised at the things I realize.
Neal, that’s an impressive aspect of your background you never mentioned till now.
I must have been Latin in a former life, Emilio – I’ve always gravitated towards Spanish and the culture of Latin America. My first assignment as an MP even serendipitously turned out to be AFP in Laredo, and I would have gladly stayed right there for the rest of my life but for a combat zone assignment next that changed my entire trajectory. Incidentally, I happened to be in Cuba the day Castro notoriously kidnapped those three sailors from Guantanamo, and remember it vividly to this day. Probably spent more time in Ybor City than in class while I was finishing up at the University of Tampa after my enlisted tour.
Actually Hump, white is the reflection of all color wavelengths.
It is unbelieveable how simple facts and concepts confound you, Legdumper. Caucasian people have never been forced into unwilling slavery in America, and race color (or people of color) is not determined by a paint swatch.
As opposed to willing slavery? LOL…yeah I am definitely the confounded one ol chap. BTW I am curious, were the Irish black? How about those white girls of the Chicago brothels? I’m sure they were “willing” slaves, never mind…would you like to discuss the White Slave Traffick Act of 1910?
To your other pointless point, race color (or people of color) is not determined by a paint swatch…what time is your podcast on the BLACK Entertainment Television channel? I’ll be sure to switch over from the WHITE Entertainment Television channel and catch it…
The only instance it should have these type of ramifications is if it’s said with animosity towards black people. But we don’t actually care about real racism, we care about moral posterising. Who cares if black people die everyday because of policies you advocate for if you put a black square on your insta and cancel a teenager for singing a song.
I do hope that he can find some grace somewhere and get to play, maybe he can go to a community college while people forget and then he can play D1 in a couple years.
Gatorfan, as you implied “grace” transcends all this contemporary nonsense and will take this youngster far beyond football. Might be the right time for Tim Tebow to get involved with him? Both are from the Jax area.
Maybe also consider a good Divion II or III program, away from the manufactured notoriety. It ain’t over ’till the fat lady sings, and she’s not even warming up yet in the life of an 18-year-old kid.
Good points doc. I hope it happens. I don’t know the kid personally but it seems like he took responsibility for his actions instead of blaming someone else or talking t r a s h. That shows a maturity that many these days don’t have.
Huh? The article says he’s received an offer from Alabama A&M.
Went from UF to Alabama AM. Not much of a consolation prize. I realize what this kid did is not ok,but singing along to a rap song and recording it has put this kids football career in the toilet. I’m quite sure when he did it he didn’t under stand the ramifications of his actions until it was to late.
But his football career isn’t over. Kids these days need to be taught that social media posts never go away.
LMAO
The cancel culture is out of control.
Cancel Culture? You mean the school taking away his scholarship because he said the n-word?
Alas, but only one of many examples. It is indeed out of control.
He didn’t say the “N” word, he sang along to a song that was most likely written by a person of color, and the lyrics (most likely) written by a person of color, just happen to have the “N” word in them. Just because i sang a song that the lyrics say “I love you” doesn’t necessarily mean for you to believe “i love you”.
Doesn’t matter Tailwhip. The point is to control people.
They do that via intimidation. This poor, ignorant kid was made an example of. Right now, he’s socially radioactive.
“A society that capriciously eats its own young will not long survive”. – Wong Hung Lo, famous Chinese philosopher.
Say it loud and proud boys…. they raise their kids to hate you and say your evil….. while you are raising your kids to love everyone and not see colour….lol
No easy answer. Reminds me of that old Sly Stone song, “Everyday People”. Deaf ears, everywhere.
Can you imagine being so much of a race pimp that you get to change the definition of a word based on who says it?
When Quinn Gray is forced to reverse his actions with a manipulated statement, he is showing that he is just as owned as his ancestors were. Meet the new master, same as the old master
Yup, nail on the head 2bitz
Like the article said…An apology for not honoring the tradition and history of ASU, a tradition and history that certainly can’t include placing non black kids on scholly and also expect to keep their prestigious HBCU monicker. Can one imagine the wokeness Yale would receive for insisting they be call a HWCU?
I told all of you in a previous post that Hillary ” The beast of Benghazi” decides all of this. Her wrath is swift and just. All hail!
Alabama A&M, formally named “Huntsville St. normal school for ne-gro-es”, and Albany St. formally named “Albany bible & manuel training school”, both schools are historically black colleges. What better way to be an example of “change” that popular posters ask for than to model the inclusion of this young man with open arms into they’re mostly singular race society. By not including him, does this mean he was judged by the color of his skin and not the content of his heart? Did anyone discuss his motivation or heart values with him before exclusion? Begs the question, If he was of the more preferred color would he have been welcomed?
I’ll go ahead and say it – MLK wouldn’t know what to make of this post-modern culture. Can anybody identify who exactly was harmed by a white kid singing along with a popular rap or hip-hop song that plays over the airwaves hourly? Anybody?
What BLM and other so called b l a c k “leaders” spouse today is in direct contradiction to the teachings of MLK
I wouldn’t mind if UF went back and offered him again. He’s paid for his mistake, i’m sure he’s “changed”, now forgive and move on.
I hope he finds some grace, we all deserve a second chance.
Nash: actually white & black are called achromatic colors. That means both are colors without a hue. White reflects all colors and black absorbs all colors.
I wonder what college athletics would look like if everybody who ever uttered a racial slur was banned? This site mirrors most of society with the double standard of slurs & religion. Redneck, cracker & honky are all allowed. So is Kwanza & Ramadan. How many black players would be banned for calling someone a redneck?
