Jaden Rashada granted release from Florida, per report
Jaden Rashada is back on the market. The highly-touted quarterback has reportedly been released from his National Letter of Intent with Florida, according to a report from On3.
Rashada, out of Pittsburg (California), is the No. 7 quarterback and No. 59 overall recruit in the class of 2022 on the 247Sports Composite. Rashada signed with Florida during December’s Early Signing Period but did not enroll for spring classes at UF as he had planned.
It has been widely reported by multiple outlets, including The Athletic, that an NIL deal for Rashada with a Florida collective worth $13 million fell apart. With the issue unresolved and UF’s spring semester underway, Rashada filed paperwork for release from his National Letter of Intent with Florida.
Rashada’s departure is a significant blow to Florida’s quarterback depth. As of right now, Billy Napier’s squad has 3 quarterbacks on scholarship: Graham Mertz, Jack Miller and Max Brown.
Mertz transferred to UF from Wisconsin after the 2022 season. Miller, a transfer who saw limited playing time at Ohio State, made his Florida debut in a 30-3 loss to Oregon State in the Las Vegas Bowl. Brown, a 2022 signee, has yet to play football for UF and has joined the Gator baseball team for 2023.
With his release, Rashada can sign anywhere and play in the 2023 season. It will not count as a transfer. National Signing Day is set for Feb. 1.
?BREAKING? Florida has officially granted 4-star QB Jaden Rashada release from his National Letter of Intent, per @Pete_Nakos96.

All I can do is laugh at this. $13mil for a HS recruit is just pure desperation. Just a pathetic situation all around.
I just have one question. Who is the source of that figure? If it’s anyone associated with the Rashada camp, don’t buy it.
Rashada looks like Darrel Strawberry and Michael Jackson had a baby!!!! LOL
Negan
Negan looks like Porky Pig and June Shannon had a baby!!!!! LOL
Nega
I said it once and I’ll say it again.
Dumpster. Fire.
When was the last time y’all won a National Championship?
Or anything of importance?
Still stand by my statement.
Well if anyone would know a dumpster fire it would be the vols… Pruitt , jones , Dooley , kiffen ring a bell ?
UT knows all to well about dumpster fire. You have lived the part until what this year. The prog=am ur calling dumpster fire has took you all to the wood shed 17 of the last 19 games. You all got em this year in your place, but it was a struggle. Boy how we’ve forgotten how UT has been in that category for the last decade or longer.
I haven’t forgotten. I’m just simply telling the truth about the entirety of the Florida program at this point in time.
gatorfan don’t forget Greg Schiano
volfan, the truth as you see it is far from reality. See what you want to see. I for one I’m glad they let him go, not like we were counting on him to start right away. We were not, he ain’t ready
Dawg time you said it .. I think our Tennessee friends are getting a little to cocky for one 10 win season in 15 years .. heck the last gator coach fired ( Mullen ) had 2 of those 10 win seasons in his 4 years .
And what happened to Mullen?
Look, I’m not even trying to troll here. I’m just saying Florida has a long way to go before they can be back again.
No, that isn’t just what you’re saying if you choose to use the imprecise and inflammatory language of a troll, absent any knowledge of either NIL or what is being undertaken at Florida. Are you really that insecure in Tennessee’s ascendancy so as to project it onto a Florida page simply because you can? Assuming that to be the case, it strikes me that most Gator fans have considerably more confidence in Tennessee than you.
I LITERALLY just said that I wasn’t trying to troll.
But ok.
And I’m LITTERALLY saying that you’re a liar.
A dumpster fire is going 2-9 vs the team you are calling a ‘dumpster fire’ . Just stop. You are embarrassing yourself.
I don’t see desperation or a dumpster fire. I see the wild west nature of unrestricted NIL causing chaos. It’s a tough era to navigate.
Someone finally realized how ridiculous the entire saga was. The end result was a win for both parties.
Later, kid. This situation will happen across all the CFB landscape going forward. Likely already has, just not reported. The Collectives say one thing, change terms after a kid signs…the University can’t be involved by rule, but we all know there are conversations anyway and the NLI is voided. Throw shade at UF, everyone. Take your best shot. Then remember, your school likely to be next in this s…show. Wish this kid good luck…honestly. He’s making decisions in his best interests based on rules in hand. Guardrails needed though for the good of the sport.
The problem with today’s kids is that they are terrible with math. Somebody shouldn’t have included the zeros on the right side of the decimal. He got all confused.
So did the UF boosters. “When I said six zeroes I was including those to the right of the decimal.”
I don’t blame UF for cutting ties, this kid and his family seem a bit prima dona is. But to future recruits this is not a good look for UF. Sucks because it is really their only course of action.
Ish not is.
How is it prima dona to ask for the money that was promised to you?
Do we know that is what happened?
I have to say, during the time when I just watched our No. 1 WR leave Athens and the NIL opportunities there (which would have been numerous) and the opportunity to leave Georgia an absolute LEGEND only to turn mercenary for the biggest wad of cash he could get from Texas oil money, the only thing that’s kept from me absolutely losing my s–t over that bulls–t was knowing FU ‘turds fans have so so so so so so so much worse.
If you were about to absolutely lose your s-t over that, trust me on this – no amount of castigating ‘turd fans, FU or otherwise, can help you.
What you say, FU.
FU, I agree, and FU again
WMFPOTO!!!!!!
Sooner rather than later this kid is going to be saying “Would you like fries with that?”
UF dodged a bullet with this one. Find a kid that’s talented but hungry for success and develop him.
How is it the kids fault that UF couldn’t pay what they promised him?
Uf did not Promise to pay him as no school can pay an athlete.. now the collective or boosters who did promise what ever amount really
Screwed this up
My reference was that this is not the type of character anyone needs. These types tend to come and go with little impact. Programs aren’t built to SUSTAIN on freshman “hired guns” who have never set foot on a college field.
I don’t begrudge these kids getting theirs, but this entire process stinks to high heaven. No different that the basketball guys who end up one & done and once they don’t immediately succeed in the NBA ore go undrafted are out of ball, out of a living and have no education.
True, it’s important to have players that are talented but also have some loyalty and drive.
This Rashada saga could have happened to just about any school.
And so Jaden is now Jadone. He has positioned himself well to promote any number of unreliable products likely to burst into flames at any moment.
Hey, if he signs with Cal, he should soon be seen tooling around town in his brand new Prius. He’ll fit right in with that fruit loop crowd.
Florida is doing all they can to get better as fast as they can. The optics look quite bad for backing out of a deal at first blush but after a few days, heck a few hours, they will be better off to break away from this mercenary. Lagway is on the way and time will tell if Napier is a good coach at sec level.
Good riddance to bad rubbish!
Yes indeed, although UGAplaysD does make the point that in terms of public perception, uninformed as it may be, the bad optics will hang on the university for a while …. and of course, provide grist for the mill of silly commentary by uninformed trolls for longer.
The way I see it, he never got a chance to lose a game for the Gators. That must be worth something.
Hopefully, even though CBN and UF can’t really make official statements, players will know what is going on and fill in fellow players. The Gators still got some decent transfer portal additions even while being in the middle of this mess.
That’s contrary fact #1 GatorFanAlways.
Contrary fact #2 is that consensus 5-star QB DJ Lagway is still committed and recruiting other blue chippers to the Gators. As a matter of fact he’ll be in Hogtown with a bunch of them next weekend.
??
I think you responded to the wrong comment, Emilio.
Neal, I wasn’t clear enough in my late night agreement with GatorFan on his contrary fact #1. His line, “The Gators still got some decent transfer portal additions even while being in the middle of this mess,” is contrary to the prevailing narrative out there that the collective did great harm to future Gator recruiting in how they handled Rashada’s “deal.” I guess the only acceptable choice the collective had was to give the kid whatever he demanded.
Contrary fact #2 is more straight forward. Lagway is a higher rated QB prospect than Rashada. What’s he doing STILL committed to and recruiting for that “dumpster fire?”
Contrary to popular opinion, the sky isn’t falling on Hogtown.
Got it. I pulled a muscle in my upper back yesterday, SUDS 7/10, Tylenol not touching it, can’t take Flexoril since I have to drive to Austin this morning through a million marxists ….. and through THAT brain fog I didn’t get it the first time around.
Ouch! Hope it gets better soon Neal.
In the future, eat a banana per day. The potassium really helps minimize muscle pulls and back spasms.
“…agreement with GatorFan on his contrary fact #1. His line…”
Uhh G8rStL, about that GFA “he” part…he be a she and a very classy knowledgeable one at that…
Oops! I stand corrected Humper. That distinction never came across to me, but then I haven’t been on SDS very long.
Meant no disrespect to GFA who’s still correct.
WAIT A MINUTE!!!! HOLD THE PRESSES!!!! SAY AGAIN ALL AFTER “he”, OVER.
GatorFanAlways is a girl?? Who not only likes football but is very knowledgeable about it??
May I at this time propose marriage? I’ll even drop my personal pronouns of Ick, Yuck! Trust me, I used to be a doctor.
You lizards really should get to know your own reptilian base better. Mee palley Kirby4prez is our bama gender neutral representative when he isn’t out on weekend furlough
Now I’m scared to ask how you know all those details Humper.
Lol all forgiven!! :D Growing up a tomboy I’ve always been a sports fanatic, mainly baseball at first but then really got into football when I attended UF in the 90’s. Ended up getting a Master in Sport Management and working for the Cris Collinsworth Foundation until I got married and had kids. I’m still passionate about Gator football and SEC football by extension. As a woman, it’s often hard to get taken seriously in a conversation about sports so I enjoy the analyses and witty bantering on here. :)
Impressive resume, GatorFan, and explains why you’re always tuned into nuances most of us don’t catch. I’ve only known two other ‘tomboys’ in my life who were into college football as much – one the best female officer and not coincidentally one of the best officers I’ve ever had the pleasure of serving with, who didn’t try to be tough but was tough without sacrificing her femininity; and the other being my daughter who is regrettably a Georgia fan.
I’m guessing I can retain my personal pronouns of Ick, Yuck – right?
Well GFA, it’s a real pleasure to get to know you. You’re one of the exceptions to my lovely wife’s general assertion that, “Women football announcers on TV look silly because most women don’t really care about sports in general and football in particular. It’s too violent!”
In her opinion, most women who watch football games do it just to humor their men… when they’d rather be watching the Hallmark Network.
My wife, the Lovely Gator-3 (who gave me my personal pronouns), knows only one football phrase … but not when to use it: “FIRST AND TEN DO IT AGAIN”. But inasmuch as my Gator-Man-Cave and TV are squeezed in between two gun safes in the garage (the only place I’m allowed to smoke cigars and which I refuse to clean up), the only thing she ever says when I’m watching a game is …… wait for it….wait for it….”ICK, YUCK”.
I love her dearly, but the message to sports fans everywhere is don’t marry a yankee!
Thanks doc! And lol. With your daughter being a Georgia fan, does she like to rub it in? :D I’ve gotten my boys hooked on Gator football so far, but we’ll see where my oldest goes to college in a few years.
StL, I actually got my husband, born and raised in Florissant, MO by the way, hooked on football with my addiction to it. He enjoyed it before meeting me but didn’t watch often, but then until we had kids we had football games on Thursday through Sunday (back when NFL games were better to watch). And I’m definitely not a fan of Hallmark movies, they are too *rolling eyes* :D
How embarrassing… Florida doesn’t have the money to keep 4 stars. Florida is the new USCjr. Poverty program.
Florida will do OK without THAT 4-star. On the other hand, let’s see how that 4-star does without Florida.
Funny how 247 started him as a 4-star, then upped his composite to 5-star, which SDS glommed onto immediately, but now reverts and carries him as a 4-star after this mess while 247 stills shows him as a 5-star. Not that it makes any difference until he actually starts taking snaps as a college QB and either proves or fails to prove that he’s worth one cent.
Sorry to hear about The bad back, You sure you didn’t double up on the flexies?
Rashada for Heisman is a 247comp 4*…has been and still…he is top100 so by the Humpyscale he’s a 5 (humpyscale top100 5* top250 4*)
Can’t afford sedation effect while driving through communist territory, Humper – effects my draw reaction time and sight alignment, so took a buttload of Magnesium instead.
I think the # of 5-stars per year caps at 32, so with Georgia already signing 25% of those the pickings are slimmer. The better strategy I think is to look at the actual score and grab the highest of the 3- and 4-stars. But regardless, they’ve still got to be developed for the big leagues, which takes time and effort. A Bennett or a Trask don’t appear too often.
All we know is Rashada signed a NLI and now UF has released him. Nobody knows who said what, who offered what, who boogered the deal.
Hope this kid doesn’t end up on Last Chance U.
What are NIL “terms?” Rashada gets a “deal” for $13M. That’s $3.25M per year for 4 years. If he’s worth that, he won’t be in college 4 years. Like the back-end of NFL deals. Does he get the $ from day 1? What does an NIL fine print contract say? Gets the $ if he plays “X” number of games? “X” number of plays? All-America status? What if he gets injured, suspended for poor grades, heaven forbid run afoul of the law, redshirts or just flames-out? Still gets the $? Collectives represent high value boosters. These people didn’t get where they are by throwing money away for a representative that gets paid to attend birthday parties or do car dealership ads. Not at $3.25M a year. This is a black box scenario. The collectives could/should form an industry group, agree on best-practices. …stay outside judicial issues and regulations. Not holding my breath this will happen anytime soon…too early in this madness to come together and agree on anything, but worth considering.
